I'm currently reading another non-fiction, 2000 Years of Disbelief: Famous People with the Courage to Doubt by James A. Haught. It contains a wealth of interesting opinions from famous names of the past 2,000 years who have rejected orthodox religious belief, but many of the references could be better sourced. While original sources are given where known, frequently only other authors of books of quotations is given as the source, and this is unacceptable in my eyes. It's published by Prometheus Books, a publisher that normally sets very strict standards for their authors. Nevertheless, on balance it's a very fascinating work, although before quoting any passages from it I would suggest checking the source first.

Finished Rabid by Bill Wasik. Very interesting, and it appears well-researched. There was a pretty good discussion about the roll rabies may have played in the mythos of the vampire, werewolf and zombie.
Next up, Deeply Odd by Dean Koontz. |

So I did read Deja Dead by Kathy Reichs. Slightly more explicit and thrillerish than my usualy mystery story. Good enough to continue with the series (which is fortunate, as I've bought the next seven!), and hope that later ones are a little bit more to my taste.
Next up: A freebie that appealed: Crazy, VA by Shannon Hill. Lil and Boris #1, apprently. Boris is a cat. Surprisingly, for a mouse, I rather like cat stories. Last edited by pdurrant; 06-25-2016 at 10:17 AM. |

Good narration of history and facts. Recommended for non-fiction readers. Next I am taking up a five book Harry Bosch series by Michael Connelly. First one will be The Black Echo. Thanks to alansplace for recommending it. |

Finished Deeply Odd.
Next, I think, Infinitesimal by Amir Alexander. It is subtitled How a Dangerous Mathematical Theory Shaped the Modern World, that way you know it is nonfiction. ![]() |

Two books recently finished:
"The Cold Equations and Other Stories", by Tom Godwin. Bought from Baen in 2003. "The Cold Equations" is of course one of the most famous (and controversial) SF short stories ever written, and it concludes this excellent volume of Godwin's work. My personal favourite is the short novel, "The Survivors", which opens the collection. Highly recommended. "Cross Bones", by Kathy Reichs. The 8th book in the "Temperance Brennan" series about a forensic anthropologist working in Canada. A bit of a departure from the earlier books in the series; this one is more of an "archaeological thriller" about the possible discovery of the bones of Jesus (hence the book's title). Very enjoyable. |

I really loved Joe Hill's The Fireman (don't miss the slightly hidden coda at the end).
The book after that was The Blind Assassin by Margaret Atwood. I had a hard time with it for some reason and kind of skimmed over the last half of the book. Now I'm reading Jane Steele by Lyndsay Faye. I am thoroughly enjoying it. The Jane Eyre-ish heroine is a serial killer. It is entertaining and well-written so far. I'm 1/4 in already. |

I just finished the Red Rising trilogy by Pierce Brown. It was quite good if a bit dark and violent for YA.
Now starting Empire from the Ashes by David Weber. So glad the next Honor Harrington book is coming in November! |

There is a whole lot of David Weber at the eLibrary... don't know if I'm up for that, though.

Seriously, the story "Moon, June, Raccoon" alone is worth it! And I'm still reading short stories at the moment. I may have the time and ambition to tackle something longer soon. |

![]() Next up: Mission of Honor (Honor Harrington 12) by David Weber. It has been almost a year since I read the previous one so this sounds like fun. |
