Android 4.4, ? whats going on
Hi,
Does nyone know whats going on with the Kitkat developement. Since the first release in 2015 booxtor never posted anything new about kitkat. I already use it since the first day on my M96Plus, and i really love the advanteges of kitkat. It actually runs pretty smooth, with some Beta-bugs. But sure, this beta-tester-release is buggy, so it would be nice to get a official or at least less buggy version soon. Anyone some news on that ? greets Notger |

Yes, I'd like to know if there are news too! I tried kitkat a while back on the t68, but WiFi didn't seem to work (https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho....php?p=3300393), so I went back to ics. I'm finding non-qwerty keyboard layouts a bit complicated (I'm planning to write with a Bluetooth keyboard) and I believe that KitKat may be a bit more user friendly in that respect.
Considering I didn't continue trying the current 4.4 build, I'd be curious as to your further experience with it -it seems you didn't have the WiFi problem? |

Hi,
The latest kitkat from ereader-store works pretty fine on my M96+ I never went back to the 4.04 cause on 4.4 i can just use all the internal memory for apps, and do not have to move them to the sd-card. in general it works fine, but sometimes it has some wired touch behaviour, or seldom, but still it will freeze. no wifi troubles, just one effect i observe is that using the reader with the charging cable plugged in and wifi on, it is really slow. unplugging the charging cable lets it work in the used speed again.?? greets Notger |

T68+ wireless is slower than M96+ wireless on KitKat. I get about 35% of my max wireless speed using T68+. Bluetooth works for keyboards, but if you're a fast typist you'll have to slow down. It doesn't keep up, but also appears to not lose anything you type for awhile.
On either the T68+ or the M96+ I had to reflash kitkat a few times before I had what seemed to be a non-buggy build. It's been awhile since I did it so I don't recall what the issue was. I believe on the T68+ it was that the touchscreen kept interpreting touches as swipes, making selections of apps that I wanted to install from my account difficult to do since it would swipe from 'All' to 'Installed' when I tried to click things. I believe it did that on two flashes, then went away on the third. I would have said that both devices seem pretty stable, but recently my M96+ stopped being able to reach google play store. Now it just gets RH-01 messages that nothing seems to fix. I'll have to reflash it. Or maybe I'll try ICS again, but my experience is that ICS is a turd on any device. I've never had better than glacial response times with it installed on any device, eink or otherwise. |

Thanks for your experiences, good to heart something specific to the T68+as well! Seems like it's a mixed bag - and also like my WiFi issues may have been something that may go away after flashing again...
Not sure if the slow speed, especially for Bluetooth wouldn't be destroying anything I'd hope to gain from KitKat. Cause otherwise I agree that ICS feels quite limited in various respects. I'll see what I'll do, but to join in OP's call, it would be great to get a newer build... |

It seems to me that by design updates for Onyx Boox devices are not a high priority. It's part of the sales strategy, a bit like android phone devices, they would much rather you buy a new device, if you want an updated OS.
So I wouldn't hold your breath, waiting for any OS updates, it's not happening... |

I could've sworn I posted this: yesterday I reflashed KK onto my T68+. Everything went well, and things seemed to install faster than they used to. Then I found that the touch screen stopped working. Not sure why. I was in Play Store and using the physical buttons to navigate. I rebooted, and touch worked until I started using the buttons again. Today it's back to normal, so I don't know what the issue was.

OK, so I re-flashed KitKat to my T68+ twice and reset to factory settings too.
Neither the Wifi not the Bluetooth work ![]() My device is T68+ Carta, so this may be the reason, but the regular ICS version from Booxtor's store (the one that you use if you want to revert to ICS) works perfectly. Has anyone else besides bsnick managed to have Wifi work on KitKit on their T68+? I'm trying to understand if it's my bad luck or bsnick's good one. ![]() |

Are you sure about your T68+ having a carta screen? I'm not aware of any T68 model with a non-pearl screen, afaik the only upgrades for the T68+ were extra storage and RAM (plus maybe some changes to light and touch technology).
So I don't think there is more than one T68+ model. Which makes it all the more curious why WiFi isn't working for at least us two, and what we're doing differently from bsnick... |

I'm sure. See for example here.
I know it actually has a carta screen as I have two other T68 devices that are not carta and you can easily see the difference in contrast between the two older ones and the carta one. |

![]() While not a bug, I do notice that KK doesn't have contrast settings or the option to switch volume and PgUp/PgDn keys. I recall that the ICS rom did, but I think that was Booxter's version. I guess that might mean the KK rom isn't from Booxter, but perhaps from Onyx themselves. Last edited by bsnick; 06-30-2016 at 05:18 PM. |

bsnick, would you happen to remember where you downloaded the KK update from?
