Still at 12 books read for the year but I've reduced my TBR to 5459.

I'm five books ahead of my TBR, which I think is good progress. By which I mean: actual progress rather than regress. It'll only take a moment's weakness on the Small Beer Humble Bundle to put me back to -12, though, so I need constant vigilance.

I lost even more ground in May and my predicament is problematic and perilous.

My overall reading is slightly ahead of pace, but I'm significantly behind on three of my sub-challenges. I've calculated that if I read ten books from my various categories I could be caught up by month-end, but that would leave me virtually no slack for other reading, where I usually aim for a 50/50 split between directed and free-range selections. Still, at least it can be done; one more month of falling further behind would leave me floundering beyond sight of land.

I'll try for it, acknowledging that it could be summer's end (is there a sadder phrase in the English language?) before I realistically can be caught up. If I can't make up some ground in June, though, my challenges will have been torpedoed for the year.

Ah, summer's end. True, the beautiful weather is gone. But with it, so are the tourists. And it brings curling and knitting seasons. So not without its appeal, especially when you live in a tourist area. As much as I dislike the grey and wet of fall and winter here, I really look forward to the quiet and introspective time. And my reading time goes WAY up.

The tourists here last through the foliage season. I admit they condition where I drive on a weekend, but it's a small price to pay for sunshine, long days, and the beach. That said, I could enjoy fall if I didn't dread winter so much; the specter of winter is always lurking.

I can be enjoying a drink on a waterfront deck, smelling the salt water and feeling the breeze, but not far upriver loom the salt mountains and quite probably yet another cargo ship adding to their elevation. The Starks voiced a truism.

Sunshine and long, long days (we're further north here), but no real "beaches". There are some stone beaches, but mostly no sand beaches. We're about a 1000 feet up the mountain, but only minutes from the harbour. I love it, and enjoy the summer. But there's a different appeal to the winter when all the tourists and the weekenders are gone. It's just the real Coasters then, and we're a small community. But by spring, I'm glad to see them back, cause everyone in town is starting to look a bit pinched as the wallets get thin.

I am on pace for 105 books this year, so this may be the first year I succeed but very unlikely.

This is already a new record for me this late in the year though so I am not feeling bad. The next highest I have ever been at any point in the year after March is 90 books and that was due to reading a bunch of short stories one December. Normally by February/March my pace is around my average, between 80 and 90 books for the year.

I need to update my figures but it looks like I'll likely make my stretch goal of 150 books this year. I'm not at 100 yet, though.

So at your current rate, assuming you don't add any more titles to your TBR list, you're all set for the next 232 years.
