No, the model it replaces has 4GB as well (I have one).

I pre-ordered a white one. I find I rarely use the front-light on my Paperwhite and the additional layers reduce contrast and clarity. I think this will be better for VoiceView as well since there will be no wear-and-tear associated with repeated plugging in of audio adapter.

Would be interesting if they added another no-front-light model with Oasis form factor and screen resolution. But people seem to like front light despite the trade offs.

To my mind the trade-off in screen clarity only occurs if you read in direct sunlight. In virtually all other lighting conditions, the improved clarity added by the light far outweighs the small loss of contrast due to the presence of the light diffuser.

I have one too, but never paid attention to how much storage it has.

Then Amazon lied. From their press release:

My one concern is what "thinner and lighter" will mean in terms of battery life, particularly when it comes to TTS. TTS is tough on the battery (the CPU is working constantly, rather than only on page turns) and on a standard PW3, VoiceView drains the battery in 6h. A smaller battery on the new Kindle would almost certainly mean an even shorter battery life.

Yes, that makes sense. VoiceView only works on devices with 512MB RAM: Voyage, PW3, and Oasis. It doesn't work on the PW2 and the "old" basic Kindle, both of which have only 256MB RAM.

I bet you're right. Talk was, the previous model didn't have enough RAM for VoiceView.

So, interestingly enough, they've launched a new Kindle on Amazon.ca for $79.99 CDN. Most things sound a lot like the Amazon.com one, but there's no mention at all about accessibility or Bluetooth.

Good point, Harry. Because it's the battery that gets the hits, as the other components are probably about the same.

Bluetooth audio for voice view and tts in basic but not paperwhite and oasis. Companies need to think of accessibility as a desirable feature that helps not only the disabled, rather than something they have to do to comply with gov requirements (and contracts).

I don't think I can go back to unlit 167ppp pearl screen.

I see no mention of it on the UK site as well. Sure hope they're not removing it for non-US customers.
