Since I last posted about what I've been reading while waiting I finished reading The Black Echo (Harry Bosch #1) by Michael Connelly which I had just started. I liked it a lot, so I read the 2nd one in the series and also liked it a lot, then I read the 3rd one in the series and then the 4th one in the series, so now I've begun reading the 5th book . . . and I'm hooked for sure!

Are you going to strictly read the Harry Bosch novels, or are you going to follow the suggested/reccomended Harry Bosch Universe series order? For instance, there are a couple of support character novels between books 6 and 7 of Bosch series.

I'm unaware of any "support character novels" between books 6 and 7, what're your information sources and the book's titles? From Connelly's web page there are these two from the Mickey Haller Series:

The Fifth Witness (2011) (one page brief appearance) (between 16 & 17)
The Gods of Guilt (2013) (one page brief appearance) (between 18 & 19)

That's why I included the link when I asked the question. They are listed as Harry Bosch Universe novels .

Quote:
Reading order, which includes the secondary characters who are introduced in separate books prior to being included in a Harry Bosch novel. It is the recommended reading order to fully encompass the character connections. For example, Terry McCaleb appears with Harry in A Darkness More Than Night but is introduced as a character in Blood Work, providing more background about him.

Ah ha! I got the Harry Bosch Universe name from Goodreads but the series order from michaelconnelly.com!

So to finally answer your question, I'm going to strictly read the Harry Bosch novels as listed on michaelconnelly.com minus the two Mickey Haller novels that have one page brief appearances of Harry Bosch.

Knowing me, I'd be compelled to try reading the whole kit and kaboodle (which could either be great [like Dresden] or lead to burn out [like Honor Harrington]).

So if you continue to enjoy them, do you think you will go back and read the others, since they're all written by Connelly?

If I do I'll read each series seperately. The way they're listed in Goodreads is confusing and I'll bet also screws up the continuity of the other series.

By the way, I like Harry Bosch so much because I've begun to imagine him as Harry Dresden who is an LA cop without any magical abilities (is not a wizard, as there are no wizards in this world).

Sounds great.

Although I don't think I will be reading it. Simply because the thriller genre doesn't float my boat -- I prefer SF/F.

...

In my mind, Harry Dresden is that guy who has the mystical powers behind the universe at his beck and call and still, somehow ends up being in that uniquely Harry position.

Upcoming Works

We’re frequently asked about when to expect new work from Jim. Here’s what we have on the slate:

THE DRESDEN FILES

Novels:

As of June 2016: Jim is currently writing Peace Talks (#16), so we’re still quite a ways from having a release date. We’ll announce any updates in the news blog.

THE CINDER SPIRES

The Aeronaut’s Windlass was released September 29th, 2015.
Jim will start writing The Olympian Affair (#2) when he finishes Peace Talks.

Great recommendation, Alan, thanks! I had incidentally read a pbook of Michael Connelly's Concrete Blonde several years ago during a journey, and since then I had a wish to read all the books of the author. I'll go for the Harry Bosch series soon after completing my current reads.

If you're interested/unaware there are also some short stories/collections: Suicide Run, Angle of Investigation, ... ?

Cool Legend Award Nomination . . .

Quote:

The Aeronaut’s Windlass (Cinder Spires 1) by Jim Butcher has been nominated for a David Gemmell Legend Award 2016 for the fantasy title judged the year’s best by open vote!

On a related note, Chris McGrath has been nominated for a David Gemmell Ravenheart Award 2016 for his cover art for The Aeronaut’s Windlass!
