@quiris - Can you make sure that your Google Drive app is updated to its latest version. As I recall, older versions had issues dealing with EPUB files (incorrectly reporting and sending them as ZIPs).

Quick query: Is the only difference between M3 and M SxS the inclusion of side by side and split libraries? I'm trying to decide which version to install. I don't need the side by side feature, but multiple libraries sounds interesting (I like to see a list of the last handful of books that I've read like Marvin has traditionally shown at the bottom of the home screen, but occasionally I take some time out to read parts of one of my non-fiction books which I don't really want to show up in that list; thus, the idea of multiple libraries sounds cool.

Second quick query: I just saw the warning that Marvin 2 can't create a backup larger than 4 GB. Mine would, I suspect be bigger than that (Hey, so I have a lot of books... give me a break!). Any idea when a fix might be available to allow me to create the backup necessary for the import into M3 or M SxS?

@MSWallack:
M3 and SxS are totally identical, except that M3 is paid via an in-app purchase and SxS is paid up front. Basically, you are able to run two Marvins on the same device, hence the ability to keep separate libraries, and open them side-by-side on devices that support iOS split view. I'm working to have the M2 update ready by next week. I'm sorry I didn't catch the M2 4GB issue before M3's release. |

@vs40 I just realised that my reply to your issue with Marvin's right-aligned menus might have been a bit crude. I apologise.
Here's a better explanation: I've experimented with several menu layouts that allowed me to have complex menus that can run very long. It is the best one I came up with and based it on a similar idea in saw in a popular app that is widely respected for its design chops. I also feel that the right alignment works because most menus are invoked by performing an action that's physically to the right of the screen minimising eye travel. |

Thanks for the explanations, Kris. I guess I can manage to wait another week. Just as long as it's ready for my summer vacation beginning June 30! (please feel free to hum a few bars of "Under Pressure").
Anyway, it sounds like I'd be better off purchasing Marvin SxS instead of paying the in app purchase for Marvin 3 so that I can have the multiple library feature. Of course, that raises another question: Can I move a book (say all of my non-fiction books) from one Marvin library to another Marvin library? Finally, for the record, I may go ahead and buy both, just to help say "thank you" for making a great app. |

Just wanted to offer my congratulations on this release. I understand that these threads can become a list of grievances, so wanted to say how much I regard M3 as an improvement over M2. The IPad Pro support has brought me back from the Kindle app.
I've bought M3, M3 SxS and all the themes. Long may Marvin continue. Thanks, Kris. Darren |

I have been playing around with the text and paper colours, and it is great to have so much choice. However, I do find the top and bottom bars (when in a book) difficult to read, especially when using a dim brightness at night. Is the some way to increase the contrast of the text in the bars?

@MSWallack Please hold on to your purchase of SxS. There might be some confusion about how you think it works. The multiple library feature means one library in M3 and one in SxS. SxS is basically a second instance of M3. I'll be posting a detailed explanation about this tomorrow.
@dpeace Thanks for your kind words! @democrite It is coming in the next update but I don't think it should be the default. @Therisa In publisher settings mode many of Marvin's formatting tools do not work. That's why the setting isn't included in the 'inheritance' behaviour. However, it will be included in the 'apply to all'. |

It took me awhile yesterday to get Marvin 3 to feel like the great app Marvin 2 was. I'm not sure why all the default settings just felt weird to me. At first I was nervous about the release, but I think now it seems to be a great release. I just paid for it because Kris has been a great developer over the years and I'm super glad that Marvin exists!
I've only used it on an iPhone 6 so far. I think I discovered one thing that might be considered a bug. - Headers and footers set to 'Dim' does not work with the color preset of 'Night'. Nothing is displayed (the clock setting won't do anything either). If I switch to Day mode, Some things I miss or don't like the changes: - pulling down on the main list to get a search box - being able to switch to a different view of your books with 2 clicks (it now takes 3: 'your reading list', 'smart and user collections', select a list - the front screen that shows the recent books you are reading. This is replaced by either leaving my books sorted by 'date last opened' or having the long click on 'your reading list' going to 'Recently opened' (but that has no covers) - List info box 'Markers' has great information, but I found that information easier to read in Marvin 2 (how many words and star ratings; I don't care about how many days ago I last read a book). It didn't have words that were unnecessary like 'Added on' or 'words' and it used to be a dimmer font. I like that reading list, read, and new were icons instead of text. - It used to be 2 clicks to turn on extra dimming in Marvin 2: click while reading, it was right there. Now you have to click into the theme to turn it on and off (3-4 clicks). - Vertical margin size of 'Narrow' still seems like there is wasted vertical space at the bottom (one line of text). - Page accessories. I like that there are a bunch of options to cover a lot of cases that a person might want, but it doesn't cover mind. 'Everything' has all of the information that I want to display in the footer, but for me it has too much. Love: - dark mode - I'm less likely to leave the OPDS catalog when I didn't meant to - comic reading (haven't use it yet, but will) - I can finally sort by author last name and then by published date! Whoo! Confused: - Not sure why there isn't a letter scrubber on the right side to easily get to a certain letter when sorting by author or title. I was never clear why Marvin 2 didn't have it either. The scrubber on the bottom is interesting, and sort of serves the same purpose. - Is there a way to see Published Date in the app? (Still glad I can now sort by it) |
