I've never been able to get over the (in the US, at least) thriller-ish looking covers. Are these more like mysteries than thrillers?

I really like the series too. It is interesting the difference in characters between the books and the TV series. For me, I like the book characters better.
I saw her interview on the local news and she said she was going to do another series, besides the Bones and the YA series she has. Can't wait!

They are mysteries with thriller-ish elements to them. Certainly not "cozy detective" stories by any means. Their primary focus is the solving of crimes, so I think it's reasonable to classify them as mysteries/detective stories.

I'm not usually a huge cozy fan, so that's not a problem, but I am also pretty much usually not a thriller person either. As long as there is a good mystery in there, I am usually happy, so I went ahead and took a chance on the ones I didn't have. (Turns out I had three titles already buried deep in my "who-knows-when-pile" from previous sales...)

We have a holiday weekend coming up soon here in the US, so I plan to try the series then...

Rock Paper Tiger is the first in the Ellie McEnroe series by Lisa Brackmann. Although this has been on my TBR list for a while from a previous sale, it has never made it to the top and actually gotten read, but I do note on SYKM that the second and third books in the series were nominated for a few awards.
