Question Image Formats ? ? ?

I used to have a Kindle Touch, and I had downloaded several books to my laptop, and transfered them to the Touch (Covers shown there). I never got around to reading them, and the other day I decided to read one, and moved the files/folder to my Voyage. I can read the book with no issues, but the book cover does not display. I looked at the file, and its jpeg. I looked at some other folders that were download straight to my Voyage, and was trying to figure out what image format Kindle was using, as I didn't recognize any regular image types.
Can I save the file as another format type, how can I get my Voyage to see/display the book cover image file?

Depends whether the exth 501 metadata field (cdetype) is set to PDOC or EBOK.
  • PDOC: the Kindle will extract the cover from the ebook file.
  • EBOK: the Kindle will try to download the cover from Amazon's servers, based on the ASIN.

The simplest solution:
If you send the books with calibre, calibre will sideload the thumbnail image into [userstore]/system/thumbnails/ to ensure that you get a cover image in Cover View.

Question

I have Calibre, but I've only used it to convert a few mobi files. So your saying I should take the Mobi file, and use Calibre to upload it to my Voyager?

Either I'm doing something wrong, or this isn't entirely true. Just side-loaded several .mobi files to my Voyage via Calibre, and have the PDOC set in the aforementioned metadata field. However, there are random books not displaying the cover. Any ideas?

Hmm, I did as eschwartz said, uploaded mobi files from my PC to my voyager, and it solved my problem.

Please edit your profile and correct the device name. It's called the "Voyage", not "Voyager".
