Yes, I know the feeling about needing to get back to Ms. Peabody. I always enjoy them. But right now I'm still reading 1635: The Eastern Front. That will take a while.

Which was great. A really good issue. I like Trevor Quachri's taste in SF.

Next up: Death's Bright Day by David Drake. The latest in his Daniel Leary/Adele Mundy series.

Just finished The D.A. Calls a Turn. An all the way engaging spy thriller by Earl Stanley Gardner.

Next will be The D.A. Breaks a Seal, the seventh book in The D.A. series by Gardner.

Just finished "The Genesis Machine", by James P. Hogan, which I bought from Baen in 2003. Very enjoyable hard SF. Baen description:

Quote:
In an America becoming repressive in the face of world tensions, Bradley Clifford, a young mathematical physicist, has been virtually drafted from academia to contribute to defense priorities. But his dedication is to bring about the unification of all fields and forces and reconcile the quantum and cosmological worlds.

Defying the political authorities Clifford walks out to work independently with a small team of gifted people who achieve experimental demonstrations of the synthesis and control of gravity. But these discoveries also have enormous potential for defense and intelligence gathering application, and it is only a matter of time before the work that Clifford and his colleagues have devoted themselves to is placed under government control.

The only way he will be able to continue now is on their terms, and he and his reluctant team are recruited to the task of creating a super-weapon capability that would give undoubted world-domination to its possessors. But the result that Clifford actually delivers is totally unanticipated.
Highly recommended, although I should note that, although as a previous buyer, I can download this, many of Hogan's books are no longer available for purchase. I don't know whether or not this book can still be bought.

Once the bundle date is over, you have to buy it from a regular ebook store such as Amazon. I haven't really been paying attention since I bought all of Hogan's books from Baen back when he was still alive. It does seem like a slam dunk that all of them should be available, but perhaps his heirs aren't all that interested. (insert boilerplate rant about copyright overreach )

That doesn't seem available at Amazon, though the audiobook is available. It is a good book.

No, you can still buy them from Baen; you just can't buy the monthly bundle any longer.

But that's not what I was referring to here. I meant that many (most? all?) of Hogan's books are no longer sold by Baen at all, although they are still downloadable for people who bought them previously. Perhaps they lost the rights to them when Hogan died.

Currently about 40% through Warbound by Larry Correia, the third in his Grimnoir Chronicles. A good follow up to Spellbound, but still not as good as his Monster Hunters International series.

Next up will be Witch World by Andre Norton, which since it has *finally* been released as an ebook is going to jump right over Mount TBR to be head of the queue.

Just finished "The Laughter of Dead Kings", by Elizabeth Peters. The sixth (and last) book in the Vicky Bliss series of books about a mystery-solving museum curator. In this book, Vicky and her long-term nemesis, John Tregarth, try to solve the mystery of the theft of the mummy of King Tutankhamun from its tomb in the Valley of the Kings. This was one of Peters' final books, and she adds a wonderful tie-in to the "Amelia Peabody" series to it, but I won't say more because it would be a spoiler. A fabulous book, and a must read if you're a fan of the Amelia Peabody series. Highly recommended.

Interesting book and certainly a couple interesting characters in Bryant and May.

Next up: Rivers of London (or Midnight Riot depending on where it was published) by Ben Aaronovitch. I didn't plan on reading two books in a row that deal with the other rivers of London but that's what it is.

Oooh, you're in for some fun. I really enjoy this series. And if you enjoy audio books, the Audible version is excellent.

Next is Unworthy by Kirsten Beyer. Part of the Star Trek Voyager series.

I absolutely loved the first two installments of Tregillis' Alchemy Wars series.
