Got my last Audible credit earlier today from the Groupon 2-months free promo and used it for Harry Potter 6. Then I cancelled my membership and signed up for the "Come back to Audible!" promo for $0.99/mo for 2 months. I then used the first credit for Harry Potter 7. Now my Harry Potter series is complete. No idea what I'll use my next credit for. I use these credits to collect book series I want to keep permanently; otherwise, I'd be hard pressed to spend them.

Both promos are still active for those interested:

Edit: here's a listing of all Audible Trial Memberships that I'm aware of:

Trial Offers --> archives

You could use the credit to gift an audiobook to one of us. I even have someone in mind that you could give one to.

I used up three Audible credits the other day but still have one more I need to use before my hiatus ends in a few days; then I can cancel. Decisions, decisions!

I started to cancel, then they offered me 3 months at half price, so I took that deal.

I'll definitely take a deal if they offer me one; there are some upcoming books I'm interested in. Right now for the last credit, I have several choices from my wish list, but none of them stands out as a must-have.

Audible Daily Deal -- exp 12 Jun @ 11:59pm ET

$1.95 -- The Hunt for Vulcan -- Thomas Levenson/ Kevin Pariseau --> 5.8 hrs/ R-4.5 --> astronomy

Quote:
The Hunt for Vulcan: …And How Albert Einstein Destroyed a Planet, Discovered Relativity, and Deciphered the Universe

Whispersync: Audible ($1.95) | Kindle ($13.99)

The captivating, all-but-forgotten story of Isaac Newton, Albert Einstein, and the search for a planet that never existed

For more than 50 years, the world's top scientists searched for the "missing" planet Vulcan, whose existence was mandated by Isaac Newton's theories of gravity. Countless hours were spent on the hunt for the elusive orb, and some of the era's most skilled astronomers even claimed to have found it.

There was just one problem: It was never there.

In The Hunt for Vulcan, Thomas Levenson follows the visionary scientists who inhabit the story of the phantom planet, starting with Isaac Newton, who, in 1687, provided an explanation for all matter in motion throughout the universe, leading to Urbain-Jean-Joseph Le Verrier, who, almost two centuries later, built on Newton's theories and discovered Neptune, becoming the most famous scientist in the world. Le Verrier attempted to surpass that triumph by predicting the existence of yet another planet in our solar system: Vulcan.

It took Albert Einstein to discern that the mystery of the missing planet was a problem not of measurements or math but of Newton's theory of gravity itself. Einstein's general theory of relativity proved that Vulcan did not and could not exist and that the search for it had merely been a quirk of operating under the wrong set of assumptions about the universe. Levenson tells the previously untold tale of how the "discovery" of Vulcan in the 19th century set the stage for Einstein's monumental breakthrough, the greatest individual intellectual achievement of the 20th century.

A dramatic human story of an epic quest, The Hunt for Vulcan offers insight into how science really advances (as opposed to the way we're taught about it in school) and how the best work of the greatest scientists reveals an artist's sensibility. Opening a new window onto our world, Levenson illuminates some of our most iconic ideas as he recounts one of the strangest episodes in the history of science.

Ah. Good to know--I thought perhaps some people get the half-price offer and others get the 99 cent offer. So ... I need to turn down half-price and then they'll give me an even better deal!

And then I can get on the merry-go-round of canceling and rejoining like some I could name!

I wasn't offered the $0.99 deal either. After turning down the half price deal and cancelling my membership, I then hit the link for the $0.99 deal and signed up.

The good news is that that deal is valid until the end of the year.

That merry-go-round pays off big time

Edit: sometimes they offer you a free book from a group of 20 or so. If they do, take it. After you cancel that offer, the $0.99 deal will still be available for you.

Just canceled. I was offered nothing, nada, zilch. I thought Audible was offering me a free download from my wish list--they said something like: Try listening to a book from your wish list. So I thought maybe that was a freebie to entice me. But when I put the book in my cart, it showed the member price, not free. Phooey. So I continued the cancellation.

I had used the half-price offer way back when, after I first joined, so I guess I wasn't eligible for it anymore, even though it was years ago.

So now I'm supposed to see a 99 cent offer? I'm not; all I see is "renew your membership," but there's no sweetening of the terms. I hope it appears eventually.

I find this whole thing pretty annoying--since I've never been on the merry-go-round or tried to work the system, I think Audible should offer loyal-customer me more perks than it offers to you fly-by-nighters who have joined and canceled umpteen times! But no, my loyalty goes unrewarded. Sniff, sniff.

I think this is the link to the 99¢, but if my being signed into Audible screws it up, it's available in the first post of this thread.

It took a day for the offer to show up in my browser when I cancelled a couple of weeks ago.

See post 1517 above. No need to wait for this offer to show up, Catlady. You can sign up immediately.
