Thanks for your consideration
All issues except #2 raised in that post have been resolved one way or another by the current version (v1.4.1) of BookMaster (for iPad). Since then, the requests for some way to adjust the page margins, especially from some iPhone version beta testers, have become stronger.

Well, you've got it. Both SE and CE will have a nice UI for adjusting page margins.

That sounds great, but how was #5 resolved? I have BookMaster v1.4.1 and still see the header/footer data. Did I miss a way to turn it off?

Thanks for adding margin control to BookMaster! Will margin control and header/footer control be available in MapleRead as well?

Sorry, my oversight.

There is no change on header/footer yet. Let me think about this issue for a day or two before a further reply.

Whatever changes about margin and header/footer in the next release will be applicable to both iPad and iPhone versions.

I'm really liking the latest margin notes app update, but am eternally curious about reading apps... Does this app have vertical scrolling and can you update highlights to Evernote easily?

I prefer an option for hiding the header and footer rather than dimming them too.

I love the idea of being able to hide the header and footer. Thanks!

Wink New to BookMaster

I have been reading eBooks for a good few years now and am glad to see a new reader app arrive as the Marvin developer seems to have given up on it.

There are a few things that trouble me about using BookMaster which I am hoping is down to my ignorance as a new user.

I would prefer the app opens to the current book when started.

When font and other layout settings are changed it would be very useful if there was an option to change for this book only or for all books.

Very disappointed there doesn't appear to be away of synchronising with Calibre. Very important if you have a large library.

On balance a happy reader but really looking forward to seeing the missing features.

I really appreciate you raising the questions here so that you are more likely to get useful answers by me or other BookMaster users.

If you leave your book open when the app is put in the background or killed, the book will be automatically re-opened when the app resumes active or restarted. Make sure you're using the latest version (1.4.1) and the system setting "Auto-Open Last Book Read" is turned on.

I am very surprised to hear that. Many users feel that getting books from calibre to BookMaster is indeed one of its greatest strength.
See FAQ "How to import books from Calibre via its Content Server?".

Are you using BookMaster CE or SE ?

Stimulated by Wyndham's quote of my first post of this thread, I have just updated that very first post with links to FAQ, etc.

Thank you for responding. I have now discovered a current book opening automatically. Thank you.

There are certainly a few ways to import books from Calibre but, I was writing about synchronising back to Calibre.

On further thought, I used to use this feature with Marvin and Calibre so I could keep my iPhone synced with my iPad, via Calibre which may no longer be necessary - see next.

I'm looking forward to the iPhone version of BookMaster and hoping that when setting up one device (iPad) as a server that all the information about the library will be transferred to the second device (iPhone). Things such as reading position, font and layout settings, any meta changes and, perhaps most importantly, Sets details.

I have BookMaster SE - Now retired, I was an IT professional for over twenty five years, so I like to support developers. I decided to jump right in and get SE even if I have no need of the specific features. You guys have worked hard and deserve support.

Question: What Calibre columns are used when transferring to BookMaster, and is there a mapping available?

It would be useful, for example, to set up Sets in Calibre before transferring.

Just a quick/early review to anyone who may be on the fence about purchasing Bookmaster. After purchasing Bookmaster SE today and playing around with the settings, here are my thoughts:

  1. Until today, I never heard of Bookmaster. I came across it lurking on another apps page and someone mentioned it so I decided to check it out. After a Google search led me to the developer's website and after lurking on this forum, I liked what I saw.
  2. Questions asked were answered in a friendly, professional and timely manner by user sbaylor (who I hope keeps up the excellent customer support). Suggestions for improvements are highly welcomed and the suggestions that had a lot of support on the boards were already implemented into the app. This was a big selling point to me.
  3. Importing: The main selling point to me was the apps compatibility with Calibre. I have a library of 1175 books in my library and was able to import the books using the apps PC Upload very easily by clicking and dragging all my .epub files (and all without even opening up Calibre). The whole process took no more than 45 minutes.
  4. I have no complaints so far while reading a book. Tapping the middle of the screen brings up your options on the top of the screen. As some one who isn't considered tech savvy, I knew what 7 out of 8 options were just by looking at it. (the one that I didn't know what it was at a glance was the scroll options). I like all the theme and font options that are available that were included and not having to be purchased. The ability to create your own theme is a bonus.

Bottom line, if you are looking for an E-reader app I would highly suggest Bookmaster. I am not a guy who has tried every e-reader app but I have tried a few and I can say that this app is the best out of the ones I have used. This app is so good that I actually signed up just so I can leave a review which I never do...and which you can probably tell by reading this ramble

I tried looking for things to complain about but I can't find any. My one suggestion would be having support for .cbz files so I can read my online comics using Bookmaster but I understand I may be in the minority.
