Which book downloaded to which device?

well where IS the default "deliver-to" device setting, it's not anywhere that I can see under manage content and devices/ settings pages?

[ update - let me partially retract that, under each device I have a drop down action menu and " set as default device"is an option in that drop down list. for both my fire and my voyage- But I still don't see anything saying your current default device is... ]

and I don't think the "deliver to "question is asked when you buy kindle book via PC , through that may depend on exactly how you go through checkout, My last two book purchases were made using no-rush credits and they just zapped through on 1 click.

i think it is the case that fire tablets work to different rules- all of the personal documents management system is different to that on the Voyage.

As an aside, I have no idea where amazon now puts my actual amazon books on the fire tablet. They are not visible in the books folder ( via ES file manager) and an android search for a book title has no hits. I suspect it's this new KFX format - they are broken into obscurely named bits & hidden in obscurely named folders? but sideloading a book into the books folder via calibre companion still works- i.e. that still registers as a book.

For me the current default device is the one that says "Default Device" in black under the icon/name of the Your Devices tab of the Manage Your Content and Devices web page. It is also the one shown by default on book purchase web pages.

well if that's the rule then I don't have a default device ???,

because "default device" does not appear under any of my devices on that page.

So I have now , on that page, set my Kindle voyage to be my default device - & I now see the black text - will see if my next purchase also arrives on the fire tablet in due course

PS according to that same devices and content page, I have two cloud drives ! how can THAT be - surely it's one free drive per account, and there is no " which drive do you want" prompt when I log to my cloud drive page, from anywhere....
and four Kindle for PC "devices" - that one is be plausible due to several years of PC and OS changes, I have no idea which one is which though.

There was discussion of locating books on Fire tablets starting at this point in another thread.

Also, with the Fire OS 5.1.4 release there is an option to download books to your SD card (if present). In that case they will be in directories under /storage/sdcard1/Android/data/com.amazon.kindle/files/Books. That will have one subdirectory for your registered Amazon account and that in turn will have book subdirectories named by each book's ASIN.

Me Too! However, I have just 2 PCs listed, pc & pc2; in my case I believe that it happened because of Amazon's Kindle software update as the directories where Kindle appears have changed. Kindle for PC is in a different place than Kindle for PC 2 & the icons were different.

I tried to have the book sent to Kindle for PC & it never arrived or got lost; did it again to Kindle for PC 2 & got the book. Personally, I liked the old Kindle desktop icon better than the newer/latest version even if it was set for Kindle for PC & that was how I found out about why the 2 devices for the PC.

So, if you delete the device "Kindle for PC" from amazon, I believe you can rename the other one, so that it no longer has "2" in the name. But you have to delete the one first, before you can give the same name to the other one.

I know that I have editted device names before, to make them clearer to myself.

yes you can rename your kindle for PC installs, and when you launch one on a PC, the given name appears in the title bar. so I know that my other ones are either on backup PCs or were on PC I no longer have, I have never gotten around to hunting them down and renaming or removing them. it would probably be faster to deregister all but one K for PC and re-create as needed.

you can also change kindle names and send-to-kindle addresses so that the emai addresses relate better to your chosen device names.

the win 7 -> win 10 upgrade also confused some amazon stuff. I have a whole separate messed up list of devices that are authorised for prime music, and amazon music uses it's own database of names, not managed from the content and devices screen.
the upgraded PCs each have 2 entries on that list. also, there is a limit on how many devices can share your amazon music I think, so that does need occasional maintenence.

On the books automatically downloading to the fire. They do show up on the carousel but they are not actually on the fire until you tap on them.

on the latest gen fire HDX they finally listened to their customers & binned the stupid thing!

OS 5 replaces carousel with a " recents" tab instead, maybe they appear there but are not, as you say, actually downloaded.

Never looked at the recents. If I want to look to see if the book got "downloaded" I just tap on the Kindle Books icon on the home screen & the Kindle books are displayed, including the one just purchased.

Also my "recents" screen don't display my downloaded books as it looks like I disabled that "feature"; what recents show currently show the 2 books that I did open to look at & read or partially read. The 2 books displayed are long beyond the more recently purchased books as have gotten about a dozen books since then.

Ok then yes, it may not be downloaded. All your kindle books will show whether they are downloaded or not on a Fire.
Is there a small arrow on the cover?
Tap on it please.
If it opens, you sent it to your fire. If it shows downloading, then it just put the cover.
Please check so we know for sure.
Now there are some books, mostly comic and some children that can only be sent to a fire.
Amazon only sends the book to one device.
Since 2011, I have never had Amazon send the book to more than one device, unless I specifically clicked on the send to another device on the thank you screen.

Yep, on my 7" Fire
Books. All, sorted by recent, shows the latest acquisitions whether downloaded to this device or not.
