Kobo Glo keeps getting corrupt database when using Calibre
I'm not too sure what's going on with my Kobo Glo HD. I use Calibre to send the ebooks to it and twice since I've had it (which is one only around a month) I've had a corrupt database error message when connected to calibre I think it's the exe file from memory.
I only have about 400 books on it The first time it happened I was using my old W7 Pc which has dodgy USB ports so I assumed it was that that caused the corruption of I and did a factory reset and started again from scratch. This time it happened using hubbys PC and now I can't get calibre to read the database and allow me to add books to it. I connect my device and the jobs start to run. The Get Device info runs okay, as does the Set Library information but the Get List of Books on device just runs and runs (currently over 18 minutes, it's running now) but eventually it crashes with a database error message. I don't mind factory reseting again but I need to know why this happening so I can prevent it. ![]() Edited to say this time the Get List of books job finished without an error message but does anyone have any idea why it would take over 19 minutes to pull up a library list of 400 books. My H20 has double that number but takes just minutes to come up. Last edited by Josieb1; 06-08-2016 at 07:49 AM. |

Tablets in general MUST finish their first scan, at which time you can configure the driver (I think you need to do this while the device is attached) to look ONLY at specific locations.
If you don't complete the scan... you get to do it again.... DB Corruption? A Kobo guru will need to weigh in. Usually this is caused by forced ejecting or forced power off. |

The initial connection jobs taking a long time can be a sign that the database is corrupt. It depends on exactly where in the database the problem is as to whether it shows up during these jobs. Can you post the details of the error message? Exactly what and were in the driver the error is displayed can give some hints about what is happening.
As to the cause, I've never had proof that the driver can cause a corruption of the database. Usually, it is something else such as not ejecting the device properly. I've also seen corruption after a crash of the device, or a freeze followed by pressing the reset button to restart the device. |

Do you have the Kobo Utilities plugin installed? If so, there is an function to check the database. This does a full scan of the database looking for errors. It will pick-up problems that mightn't be seen during the connection jobs. Another function of the plugin is to do a compress of the database. This can help to improve performance if there have been a lot of changes made. If you do this, take a backup of the database before, just in case.

Meanwhile, you don't need to factory reset to fix a corrupt database. You can just log out on the device, and back in again, to force a rebuild. |

![]() I ran that this morning and the database came back immediatly as OK. Also it displayed the list of files in 11 seconds today, not the 19 minutes it took yesterday. I had a problem with Calibre and conflicted OPF files for individual books, caused by Dropbox as that is where my library is stored (Its accessable via three pcs). Last night I gambled and deleted 1400 conflicted OPF files and maybe those now being gone is what's cleared up my GLO HD issue. |
