$2.95 -- Book Scavenger -- Jennifer Bertman/ Jessica Almasy --> 8.3 hrs/ R-4.6 --> kids mystery

Quote:
Book Scavenger --> Book Scavenger Series (1 of 2)

Whispersync: Audible ($2.95) | Kindle ($5.67)

For 12-year-old Emily, the best thing about moving to San Francisco is that it's the home city of her literary idol: Garrison Griswold, book publisher and creator of the online sensation Book Scavenger (a game where books are hidden in cities all over the country and clues to find them are revealed through puzzles). Upon her arrival, however, Emily learns that Griswold has been attacked and is now in a coma, and no one knows anything about the epic new game he had been poised to launch. Then Emily and her new friend, James, discover an odd book, which they come to believe is from Griswold himself and might contain the only copy of his mysterious new game. Racing against time, Emily and James rush from clue to clue, desperate to figure out the secret at the heart of Griswold's new game - before those who attacked Griswold come after them, too.

LearnOutLoud -- Free Monthly Offer -- exp 30 Jun

FREE -- Character Building Thought... -- R Trine/ S Anderson --> 0.8 hrs/ R-4.6 --> motivational

Quote:
Character Building Thought Power

This book describes a method whereby old, undesirable, earth-binding habits can be broken, and new, desirable, heaven lifting habits can be acquired, a method whereby life in part or in its totality can be changed, provided one is sufficiently in earnest to know and, knowing it, to apply the law. The audiobook version is an unabridged narration of the book.
Quote:
LearnOutLoud.com Review

Download the personal growth classic Character Building Thought Power. Ralph Waldo Trine was one of the early philosophers of the New Thought Movement and he published this book in 1900. In the book Trine attempts to show us how we can overcome our bad habits and develop new positive habits by harnessing the power of our thoughts. This book continues to be widely read and it is as valid today as it was when it was first written. It is well narrated by our very own Seth Anderson. The audio book has a running time of 45 Min. and is available on MP3 and bookmarkable MPEG-4 download.

Just in time for the weekend LearnOutLoud has figured out it is June and updated their free audiobook of the month. (I shouldn't complain; Amazon still doesn't know what month it is.) If you're interested in "Character Building Thought Power" by Ralph Waldo Trine you can get it for free here.

Audiobooks.com -- Weekend Giveaway -- exp 05 Jun

Fri: Weekend Giveaway (1 title) --> details
  • FREE -- The Past -- Tessa Hadley/ Caroline Lennon --> 10.6 hrs/ R-3.5 --> literary
Quote:
The Past --> US, Canada, Mexico only

Three sisters, a brother, and their children assemble at their country house one last time before it is sold. The house is filled with memories of their shared past yet beneath the idyllic surface, hidden passions, devastating secrets, and dangerous hostilities threaten to consume them. Sophisticated and sleek, Roland's new wife arouses his sister' jealousies. Passion erupts where it's least expected, shattering the quiet self-possession of Harriet, the eldest sister. Over the course of this summer holiday, the family's stories and silences intertwine, small disturbances build into familial crises, and a way of life-bourgeois, literate, ritualized, Anglican—winds down to its inevitable end.

Did you have any trouble picking this up? I get an error:

Quote:
Sorry, this audio book is not available in your region. Our system has detected your current region as United States. If this region is not correct please contact our customer service department.
The main JIAM page says the book is available US/CA/MX only. WTF?!?

UPDATE: It looks like it works from the app (Android, in my case). Still can't get it to work from my desktop, though.

Over on Goodreads audiobook narrator Tom Abrahams (supposedly in conjunction with Audible) is offering a free copy of one of his books. He does ask for a review, but it is not a requirement. If you think you might be interested you can check it out here. The books he has listed on the site are:
  • "The Borrowed World" by Franklin Horton
  • "Dark New World" by Henry Gene Foster & Holden
  • "Devil Dog: Out of the Dark" by Boyd Craven
  • "Home" by Tom Abrahams
  • "Ice and Bone" by Monte Francis
  • "No Stone Unturned" by Steve Jackson

Enjoy!

UPDATE: It appears this offer is done using the new "Send This Book" feature of Audible. Taking advantage of it will use up your only opportunity to claim a book via this method.

I took advantage of a similar offer from a different narrator and it turns out that it used up my one and only allowed "Recommendation" from the "Send this Book" program.

Dang; that's cold! Did you get a warning first or did the "purchase" go through immediately?

I already used up my freebie from "Send this Book", so this is what I got when I clicked on one of his free books:

Quote:
Looks like you've already accepted a free book from a friend! You can either use a credit or purchase it at the discounted member price.

xxx, here's your recommendation from Kevin.

His thread has been pulled from Goodreads. I'm beginning to think it's because of the way he was "giving away" these books. Instead of using codes or gifting like authors generally do for these "free book with honest review" promos, it looks like he was using the "Send this Book" program to "give away" the books he narrated. If that's the case, the recipients will lose their one and only free book from the program for a book they wouldn't normally want.

This is just speculation on my part. Stay tuned...

I'm in the USA. Worked on my Android smartphone, but not my laptop computer. However, once downloaded via smartphone, the audiobook became available to download and stream via computer.

What an absolute stinker.

Here's a link to a post on his blog, which he has linked to on his Facebook page. He's shilling a similar offer from author and narrator Kevin Pierce, using such phrases as "FREE AUDIOBOOKS...SERIOUSLY...FREE" and "working in conjunction with Audible to give you one free audiobook." Kevin Pierce's Facebook page, surprise, surprise, has this quote among others, "JUNE IS AUDIOBOOK MONTH, so Audible is giving away FREE audiobooks." and "And did I mention that it’s FREE during audiobook month?" in order to promote Tom Abrahams.

Misrepresentation is the kindest way to put this; absolute and utter ***** is the phrase that occurs to me. I hope there are repercussions, at least from disgruntled former fans who post how they were duped.

It might be a good idea if skinmaan edited his post. It would be a shame if someone else happened upon it and thought it was a legitimate offer. You have my sympathy, abqkjh, and thanks for the heads up.
