Reading the "In Death" series by J.D. Robb. It's brain candy, but not too bad.

I'm reading "Taming Rafe" right now (sequel to By Love Undone) and then I think I'll be reading the first Dresden Files book.

Demons are all around us, but the worst are found within…

Just finished reading "The Trouble With Being God" (kindle). It was pretty good (not nearly as good at Vespa). Expected a lot more at the end, but was a fast read.

Full review:

Brutally murdered, a catholic priest hangs crucified on the side of an abandoned brewery. Steven Carvelle, a feature reporter for the Courtsdale Courier, covers the slaying. One murder leads to the another, each one more heinous, and a serial killer is born. Tormented by his own internal demons while covering these cases, Carvelle begins having his own nightmares of increasing brutality. Subsequently, his relationship with his girlfriend, best friend, as well as his inner self deteriorates and his grasp on reality begins to warp. Carvelle questions the meaning of life, the purpose of religion, and what the slayings all have in common. Unfortunately, the answer may be one he is unwilling to face.

While reading William Aicher’s, The Trouble With Being God, I was reminded of the 1987 movie Angel Heart starring Mickey Rourke, Robert De Niro, and Lisa Bonet. Both feature a main character trying to solve the mystery surrounding a series of brutal slayings while evidence mounts pointing to them as the potential killer. Both also have substantial religious overtones.

Aicher’s writing is crisp and the novel moves quickly. There are a number of philosophical discussions between Carvelle and his friend Miles that recall the days of late night college dorm room discussions. Many of these involve religion and its role in society. However, not all are delved into as deeply as I would have liked. Also, for those expected neat and tidy closure to the various story arcs, you may be a little frustrated at the end. But realize Aicher’s focus isn’t necessarily the slayings themselves, though this provides the novels backbone pushing the plot forward, but the inner journey of our own occasional brutal thoughts and passions and how we choose to manage them.

Something unique offered by this novel to enhance the readers experience, are Aicher’s footnoted musical selections to be listened to while reading various parts of the novel. For this, Aicher draws on his experience as Director of Marketing for an online sheet music retailer and previous position as Editor In-Chief for an online music review website. The songs are available on the books website.

For those looking for a face paced read, while realizing the novel contains violence similar to that featured on an intense CSI episode, check out The Trouble With Being God.

Just finished reading The Time Traders.. the MRBC January book selection. You guys didn't tell me it was going to suck me into a whole series of books.

Anyway, I'm going back to finish of the Sherlock Holmes Omnibus now. After that, I know not what I will read. Perhaps Oliver Twist or Count of Monte Christo... or perhaps go back and read a few more Star Trek Corp of Engineers books... they are quick reads.

Then again, watching the 8 episodes of Legend of the Seeker is making me want to read Wizards First Rule again. Should I did up my paperback or just buy the ebook?

I very nearly think I agree with you.

The problem with The Three Musketeers is that the behavior of the main characters looks a bit shabby by contemporary standards. (Even the author thought that while writing it, apparently, based on the number of comments interspersed in the text about how some practice was common at the time of the story, though it would be considered inappropriate at the time of the writing.) In particular, I'm not too impressed with d'Artagnian at the moment, particularly with regard to his behavior towards women. Khaavren comes across as a much nicer fellow. (I'm now re-reading at least part of The Phoenix Guards before finishing The Three Musketeers.)

after starting "Dreams of my father - Barack Obama", which i only read half (i did not like the content, it was too much over and over...), i finished a german book (Feuchtgebiete, Charlotte Roche), which was very disturbing and obscene, and started yesterday over to "Angels & Demons" by Dan Brown.
After that i will read the "Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown"
Had read them some years ago on paperback and thought about rereading them on ebook after watching the movie on tv some weeks ago.

take care

Oryx and Crake by Margaret Atwood

It's a post apocalypse novel. Sort of.
Pretty good so far.

Before that:
Star Dragon - good hard SF (and free) - 8/10
Hunt for a star dwelling creature...

Eater - mediocre hard SF - 5/10
A mysterious object enters the solar system...

(The above are not spoilers, both books start right away by revealing this much.)

I have just finished Cross Country by James Patterson .... It was ok, but rather far fetched. Previous books in the Alex Cross series were way better. Im wondering if the Alex Cross series has been done to death. Its a shame because I am a massive James Patterson fan.

Im going to start Desert Heat by J A Jance now, its my first book by this author so Im hoping that I will enjoy it.

Every successive book by Margaret Atwood becomes my favorite. There is a scene in "Oryx and Crake" involving lines spelled out with refrigerator magnets that I still remember.

There was a big discussion in another thread about this being dry, but now you give me hope.
