The K5 usbnetwork hack also installs a KUAL extension, which contains a "Toggle USBNetwork" button. That button shows a checkmark which toggles with each press, but that only makes sense when the checkmark indicates toggle status (i.e. network enabled). However, it gets out of sync if you press it with the USB cable attached -- the button toggles the checkmark even when the network status did not change (such as USB cable attached). But if it worked as logically expected, then the "** USBNetwork Status **" button would be redundant (though still useful, whereas an out-of-sync checkmark is deceptive). Simple fix: remove the checkmark (missing being subjectively better than wrong). "Correct" fix: make it dependent on actual network status (perhaps borrowing from code the "** USBNetwork Status **" button), in which case the status button could be re-purposed to show kindle IP address (I like my kindles to have unique IP addresses, and that would aid my PuTTY SSH connection attempts).

Yeah, we don't really have a way to keep the checkmark in sync, so it's more there as a visual feedback that *something* happened in case the status bar/message gets disappeared.

If not, install it (from this thread).

What document types do you have (by extension)?
Are you sure they have covers included with them (long tap on document, 'goto' cover)?
Have you restarted the device?

I have AZW3, KFX and MOBIs on here.
Behavior has gotten weird. What appears to be happening is, there is a delay of one screensaver toggle before the cover of the current book showed up. Otherwise it will show the cover of the last book opened before that.

Here's what I observed:

I opened a KFX, and hit power - it stayed on the 'no covers processed screen'.
Then I opened a MOBI, and hit power - and the cover from the KFX book showed up.
Then I opened the KFX again, and hit power - and the cover from the MOBI book showed up.
Then I powered on, and powered off again - and the cover from the KFX book (which was in fact the book that was opened) - showed up. Hurray!
Then I opened an AZW3, powered off - and the cover from the KFX showed up.
Toggling the screensaver again, the AZW3 cover showed up.
Initially I had only tested the hack with this one AZW3, which has a cover but doesn't show in the thumbnail (A Song of Ice and Fire series 5-book pack), over and over again. It appears that trying other books was necessary in order to get ScreenSavers to do anything.

Oh, and yes, before all this, I had restarted a few times, but this didn't help.

Try restarting after all of that.

Possibly take that one that has a cover but will not show as a thumbnail off of the device.

After just having rebooted, it now takes three toggles to get the cover of the current book to show up, not two.
I'm going to download some more books and see what happens.

ED: Now it takes four. I'm going to try rebooting again.

OK. There appears to just be a delay of a few seconds before the cover of the current book is processed. After spending maybe 10-20 seconds flipping through pages of a book, and then toggling, the cover of that book will show up. Otherwise, the cover of the last book is shown.
Apologies for my confusion.

To be clear though: is this the expected behavior?

Yep, that's to account for the slow-ass storage, and make sure we hit an up-to-date DB when we query for the last book opened.

Add to that the actual processing time of the image if the book has never been processed by the hack before.
