Have you read any of these series titles?

If so, did you find them interesting?

Thanks.

I read the first three or four back in DTB days, but was sort of "meh" about them, more because of subject/setting than anything really wrong with them. I remember thinking the writing was pretty good, but I'm much more into historical mysteries, and mysteries set in places/cultures I like or have an emotional connection to. Probably fair to say it wasn't the books, it was me

With that said, this is a very popular series, and the first few titles won/were finalists for a bunch of awards.

Hopefully someone who has read more of them, or more recently, can also comment.

Berried Alive is the sixth in the Manor House series by Kate Kingsbury. It has recently dropped to $0.99 as a US Kindle Countdown deal for almost 3 more days, after which it goes up to $1.99 for an unknown amount of time.

link: https://www.amazon.com/Berried-Alive.../dp/B00M8JI3Y6

Spoiler:
Quote:
Released for the First Time on Kindle, the sixth book in the fabulous Manor House Mystery Series by Kate Kingsbury, the bestselling author of the Pennyfoot Hotel Mysteries!

Enthralling mystery, lots of laughter and a little bit of romance – that’s village life in wartime England….

Left with only a muddle-headed butler, a bossy cook/housekeeper and a couple of energetic maids, Lady Elizabeth Hartleigh Compton has enough problems on her hands. Not only is she struggling to upkeep the sprawling Manor House and vast acres she inherited, she must also take care of her numerous tenants, while coping with the inconveniences and sacrifices of wartime England. Fortunately Sitting Marsh is far removed from the bombing going on in London and other cities. That doesn’t mean that peace prevails in the tiny village. There’s the handsome American major who takes over the Manor House for officers’ quarters, and the group of belligerent housewives determined to take on the German invaders, not to mention a murder or two…

Lovers of Agatha Christie’s books will find much to enjoy in this tale of intrigue and laughter in an English village, and Emily Brightwell fans will fall in love with the offbeat characters of Sitting Marsh.

BERRIED ALIVE
American servicemen billeted nearby the village of Sitting Marsh are dropping like flies – four of them dead already. All had spent their last night in the local pub, all were red-headed and all were poisoned. Tortured by her forbidden feelings for Major Earl Monroe, Elizabeth welcomes the distraction, but she has to work fast – before another Yank dies on English soil.

We also recently had a title in Kingsbury's other series, the Pennyfoot Hotel series, as a freebie at Kindle US, and it is still free there as of right now. Info in this post: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho....php?p=3324840

Thanks for info.

In checking, what initially got my attention is that they appear to have a bit of PI hard-boiled feel to them, which is something I'm always interested in.

I may have to buy that first one in order to see if I'll like it

Love Story, with Murders is the second in the Fiona Griffiths series by Harry Bingham. It's a US Kindle Countdown deal at $0.99 for about five more days.

link: https://www.amazon.com/Story-Murders...dp/B01AMPORQ0/

Spoiler:
Quote:
A tale of snow, love - and multiple murder.

A human leg is discovered in a suburban freezer. The victim is a teenage girl killed some ten years earlier. But then other body parts start appearing. And these ones are male, dark-skinned, and very fresh . . .

British detective Fiona Griffiths starts to investigate, in the midst of the coldest winter on record. Up in a remote cottage in the Welsh Black Mountains, she finds the data that contains the clue to the entire mystery . . . but, as the first snow starts to fall, she discovers that she's not alone.

This international hit series is perfect for anyone who adored Stieg Larsson's Lisbeth Salander - and who wants to find the next strong, determined and deeply unusual female protagonist.

Watch out for the next dark & disturbing title in the Fiona Griffiths crime thriller series

When Fiona discovers the corpse of a woman, starved to death in her cottage, there and begins the most dangerous, and most lonely assignment of her career. THE STRANGE DEATH OF FIONA GRIFFITHS is the next extraordinary story in the series. Don't miss it.

The first title in this series, Talking to the Dead, after having been free for quite a while at Kindle US, also is now also $0.99. So if you didn't grab while it was free but prefer to read in order, you can still get it for what is, IMO, a totally reasonable price.

And just for interest, when the first one was free, it prompted mitford13 to remember an article about Harry Bingham's move towards self-publishing - if you are interested, see here: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho....php?p=3252062

Kobo UK has the first in the Bruno series at 99p.

Death in the Dordogne
Spoiler:
PREVIOUSLY PUBLISHED AS BRUNO, CHIEF OF POLICE
It's market day in St Denis, a small town in the Périgord region of South West France. The locals are on the alert because inspectors are expected to make a 'surprise visit' in an attempt to enforce the unpopular and bureaucratic EU hygiene rules.

But for Captain Bruno Courrèges, St Denis' Chief of Police, this particular market day turns into something far more serious.

An old man, head of a local immigrant North African family, is found viciously murdered. Suspicion falls on the son of the local doctor, but Bruno isn't so certain.

He believes it to be an act of vengeance, with its motive hidden deep in France's divisive war-time past. As rumour and mistrust grow, Bruno must look beneath the surface of this normally calm community to find a brutal killer.

I'm eagerly awaiting the release of the 9th in the series, Fatal Pursuit, this coming Thursday.

Also on a continuing free basis is the Bruno Christmas short story:
Bruno and Le Pere Noel
Spoiler:
It's the last market day before Christmas and Bruno, Chief of Police is preparing for a traditional gastronomic feast. But, never off duty for long, Bruno is called to action when he receives information that a prisoner on parole has gone missing, last seen heading for St Denis, where his ex-wife and son live.

The goose, the oysters, his English girlfriend's Christmas pudding and Bruno's famous mulled wine will just have to wait…

And if Martin Walker's 'Bruno' novels have inspired you to visit this beautiful part of France yourself, keep reading for the author's own guide to 'A Perfect Week in Perigord'.

A very good Musketeers series, fitted into some gaps in Dumas' stories. I really liked all of them.

Yes, it stands alone even if you don't know anything about the original stories. And each book is a stand-alone mystery story, so it's not a cliff-hanger series.

I highly recommend them.

Age range? Shall I recommend them for 8, 10, and 11 year old nevvies & nieces?

edit: Well, maybe not. I just read the blurb, and looked at the subject. I'll wait a few years before I broach murder!
