How to Keep Calibre from Appending Numbers to Each Book in a Series

I know there are tweaks to change *how* Calibre adds the numbers, but are there any tweaks to keep Calibre from adding numbers?

Unless I have all the parts, and add them in all the right order, the numbers are going to be wrong.

The number is part of the Series column. You can't get rid of it. That number is not unique however, so you can fill the entire series with 0 or 1 if you want.

As for how to do this, it depends upon how you're adding the number. If you're typing in the series manually, it will always find the last number in the series and increment by 1. If you're editing the metadata in bulk, assigning an incrementing series number is optional.

If you can explain the steps you're taking and what exactly the result is, we might be able to give you some more hints.

Due to the way series is implemented, no.

But I cannot imagine why you would have a problem with using the option to add them all as book "0".

There is a tweak to change this. "series_index_auto_increment" has a few different options. The default is "next" to the next highest. But, it can be a constant or one the options to fill in the gap.

And, of course, you can always enter whatever number you desire.
