![]() I think the idea is that you sit down, take it out of cover, set that to the side and read. Then when you need to do something else, you put it back in the cover. I do the same if I sit on the table while eating and reading, or if I am lounging on my balcony. If taken along outside it would be about the same I would think. Haven't taken it anywhere yet. Just that if you take it out of the cover on the road, make sure you put the cover in the purse if you have one. Or just read in the cover out of the house I guess. I wish more stuff around here got lost. Too much clutter and having a hard time letting go of stuff. |

My Glo HD I only have to charge every three weeks or so even when I use it everyday. On standby I've gone almost two months and it still had juice left in it. The cover seems like the way Amazon decided to fix their small battery life problem. Sent from my XT1528 using Tapatalk |

See, I don't look at it as a horrible battery problem or the cover as a fix. It was designed to be used like that. As a combination. The reader was never designed to be used only by itself. Its a package, just like its purchased, all in one retail box.
I don't compare on part of the Oasis to say my other kindles, I compare the package as it was designed to my other kindles. I charge my kindles up about once a month. From my K1 on to the now Voyage. K1 I have to use its special charging cord as that was different than what the other kindles use. I am not sure really why I do it, I don't use them, but I hate them going totally dead for some reason. Especially my beloved K1. ![]() I dream of devices where the case has solar chargers in it, or painted with solar. They'd look exactly the same, and would just charge themselves. ![]() A world where we never have to worry about charging anything ever again. And were batteries are so good they never die. ![]() |

I certainly don't have any problem with my Voyage's battery life. I charge it every couple of weeks. I really see no significant benefit in a device I'd have to recharge every three weeks rather than every two: neither is sufficiently frequent to be be a concern. Not like my iPhone, which I charge every day.

I charge my Voyage once a week, usually it's pretty drained at that point, but even if not, Thursday into Friday is Voyage re-charging time. Don't want an Oasis at this point. I'm quite happy with the Voyage, and I can't justify the extra $$$. |

So if I'm going to have a eInk device I expect it to outlast my tablets and phablets. It's more than three weeks if I don't use it everyday. I'm on my sixth charge since January. My paperwhite has to be charged every few days when used. 14 days if not in use. Sent from my XT1528 using Tapatalk Last edited by Blossom; 05-24-2016 at 11:10 AM. |

Fair enough. My longest-lived tablet (my iPad Air 2) has a battery life of around 12h usage, which is roughly half that of my shortest-lived eInk device (my Voyage, which has a battery life of around 25h usage). Mind you, I always have WiFi turned off on my eInk devices; turning it on dramatically shortens battery life.

The math piqued my interest, so...
Assumptions: a) 9 hours for a full charge (from an earlier poster) b) a 5% capacity loss for every 100 full charges (I got this from looking at a graph at BatteryUniversity) c) 6 hours read per day d) I only care about the small battery This is what I came up with: After the first year, Capacity is down to 7.8 hours (and went through 260 cycles) After the second year, Capacity is down to 6.5 hours (and went through 563 cycles) After the third year, capacity is down to 4.7 hours (and went through 960 cycles) I may be completely off about this. ![]() |

Looking at those numbers though, not anything for me to worry about. I always had to charge all my kindles every 3-5 days when I read regularly. My K1 I used to have to charge a lot more, at some point I had to plug it in while reading. ![]() PW1 had horrible battery, had to charge ever 2 days. Voyage (wifi on always) every 3-4 days or so if I read a lot, 5 days if I read a little less. Oasis every 5 days. I read on my Fire6 for a while when I had to read on apps and I had to plug it in that same day. My Oasis gets a tad more life than my Voyage, I am happy with that. If the battery life of the Oasis is compromised 3 years down the line, I don't think that will be a big deal. By then I will probably already have whatever new thingie kindle comes out. ![]() |

I thought that you were a heavy reader and doing more reading out of the cover? How many hours a day do you read with it out of the cover? Personally, if it is a small number, I wouldn't worry about it. And again, I'm no battery (or math) expert, so I may be way off. ![]() |

I lowered the 5% down to 3% (for less deep chargers). If you are reading 8 hours a day, this is what I came up with: After the first year, you are down to 8.1 hours and went through 345 cycles After the second year, you are down to 7 hours and have gone through 730 cycles After the third year, you are down to 5.8 hours and gone through 1180 cycles. One of the down sides to the above, IMO, is if you go to resell the device, and the battery can't be replaced:., buyer beware, as you've gone through 1180 cycles. Using 5%: After 1 year, you are down to 7.4 hours and went through 357 cycles After 2 years, you are down to 5.4 hours and went through 800 cycles After 3 years, you are down to 1.4 hours and gone through 1670 cycles Also, note the initial assumption of 9 hour initial capacity. |

Do remember that Atunah is putting the Oasis back into the cover for tiny recharges every time she* gets up for a break. She said that, repeatedly. Dunno if that fits with your calculations or not.
