Kindle PaperWhite 3 + Calibre + LibrarianSync
Hello to you all,
I have this setup: Mac OS X 10.11.4 Calibre 2.55 with Kindle Collections 1.7.16 plugin installed Kindle Paperwhite 3 jailbroken, running 5.6.5 LibrarianSync installed I have little experience with this, so if you can help me, I appreciate. When I only had Kindle without jailbreak, and with jailbreak without installing or using LibrarinSync, everything ran as I supposed: I would open calibre and conencted the USB cable to the kindle, and a few seconds after, it would be detected, and now I could see which books were both at my lib and at my kindle. I could erase and add books. As soon as I ejected the kindle, the new books added or removed would be reflected on my kindle homescreen. So everything was OK. But I had hundreds of books (as a matter of fact, mostly are text documents converted to AZW3 on calibre), and I needed a better organization. I began searching online and it seemed to me that I would create a custom metadata field, that I could assign to kindle colllections plugin, and create collections on the kindle. Then, with librarinsync isntalled, I would "update collections", and it worked. Maybe I skipped some steps, but in the end, I had "folders" of my collections in the kindle, as I desired. So no big deal until this. But today I tried to add more books, and now they aren't reflected on the kindle. I mean: i removed ALL the books on calibre, Ichecked on the finder on my Mac and the folder documents don't have ANY file. Also, I ejected and re-added only ONE book, and I can't find it, even with the search function. It could be by several reasons, that I need your help to understand (in order to not do that again) and to perceive where and how can I solve it. 1- I was sending books to he kindle, and interrupted on calibre. Could it corrupted the library? On calibre, with kindle connecter I tried the option "recreate metadata database" or something like that, with no effect. 2- It could be by my misusing with librariansync. Could it be me using Librariansync wrongly, and corrupted something? How can I force the recreation of library on kindle, or resynching or something, without make a factory default? If I have to do the factory reset, will it erase my jailbreak/KUAL/librariansync installation? Can you give me more elaborated documentation on librarinsync use? I read the README on https://github.com/barsanuphe/librariansync and I didn't get much clarified on what all the options does. I'm sorry for the long post, and for putting this in this forum (I don't know if it's the right one, because I can't understand if it's a calibre/kindle/librariansync problem). BONUS question: I want to send all the books as NOT READ, and after reading them, to be marked as READ and to synchronize that flag to calibre. So I read the book on kindle, and keep the record on calibre. I though in this solution, don't know if it's the best or not: custom colmun on calibre, a flag as READ? (Y/N), and don't mark anything by default (keep them as neither YES or NO but as undefined/empty). Create a custom column as "colelctions", which are assigned to kindle colections/librariansync and add several "tags", as the genre (fishing/self-teaching/emails) and a descrition as "to be read". Example of the field: "Health, Fishing, To be read". When i run the librariansync, I get this book in three collections: Health Fishing To be read When I'm done reading it, I mannually remove it from "to be read", and move it to a "read books". Then I go to calibre and remove the tag of "To be read", and mark them as "read" with a YES flag (this flag serve the purpose of simple searching all read books on calibre). So can you help me? ![]() Thank you very much! ![]() ![]() |

1) Reboot your Kindle (Menu => Settings => Menu => Restart)
2) Plug the Kindle into your computer. Check the documents folder -- are the ebook files you added still there? ... Note that calibre does not interfere with the Kindle database (which is kept on a hidden partition). It only copies over ebook files, which at worst will mess up one book. ![]() Also, LibrarianSync is pretty well-tested, so I doubt it was a problem with LibrarianSync either. Thannks for the answe.
Let me udpet you. I've already tried several (2-3 reboots) with no success. And as I told on the post, via computer I could see that there was NONE ebook on documents fodler. What result was a long press reboot, 30 seconds holding the reset button. I found this solution googling and thought "let me try this", not knowing what would do ![]() What about a better method for keep track of my read and unread books, can you help? ![]() |

It reboots the Kindle. Exactly the same as selecting "Restart" from the "Settings" menu.

So if it's true, it must be the need for "several reboots" as I read somewhere..

If book files that you added to the documents folder are disappearing after a while (or sometimes it takes a reboot to manifest), then I suspect you have a corrupted flash chip.
https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...49#post2810749 Not much you can do about hardware damage, I'm afraid. ![]() ... It is seriously not normal for files to disappear on their own. That these are, implies the chip is unable to actually write the changes to disk. Generally, it appears at first to still be there, because the file is cached in memory. Rebooting is a good way to force the memory cache to clear itself, revealing the true state of the underlying storage. Last edited by eschwartz; 05-23-2016 at 09:38 AM. |

PW-3, with 5.6.5 firmware - -
Check that you have (on the left) 'downloaded' selected, rather than 'cloud' - In your filter (on the right) have 'all items' selected - Make sure you have the date/time correct - if not, use the ;st command to set it. = = = = The PW-3 should still be new enough that none of them would be having flash chip failures. But one can never know - it could be a 'Lemon Chip" or the user could have repeatedly let the battery fully discharge. Last edited by knc1; 05-23-2016 at 10:01 AM. |

I think I have the same problem on jb 5.6.5 pw3.
Fixing this by rebuilding the library from folders in Librarian Sync instead of updating from Calibre plugin. Sometimes I need to use the magnifier icon to launch KUAL, when it does not show up in the listing. PS: works for me because I don't mind having author_sort == category name Edit: Do you have some very large books, i.e. omnibus with lots and lots of chapters? I know I do, like 21-book or hundredfold-chapters compilations) Could it be a problem with indexing those? Last edited by Marco77; 05-24-2016 at 12:16 PM. |
