Though my Audiobooks.com account is now inactive, I can still listen to the many audiobooks in my Audiobooks.com library in any one of three ways:
  1. By streaming them online (from any device), while logged into my Audiobooks.com account, - so, you could do this, even though your Android device is misbehaving

When I created my Audiobooks.comaccount, I did so in reply to a free audiobook promotion, by clicking a link much like the one provided by the OP. It directed me to "buy" a free audiobook while - in the process - registering a new Audiobooks.com account.

Just so you'd know.
There is a cancel link, I used it 2 days ago but I do recall it wasn't immediately obvious and it took me a minute to spot it, after I clicked it the email came through immediately confirming the cancellation.

Audible Daily Deal -- exp 21 May @ 11:59pm ET

$3.95 -- The Edge of Lost -- Kristina McMorris/ Charlie Thurston --> 10.8 hrs/ R-4.3 --> historical

Quote:
Whispersync: the Audible book is $2.99, if you own or borrow the Kindle ebook ($9.99)

On a cold night in October 1937, searchlights cut through the darkness around Alcatraz. A prison guard's only daughter - one of the youngest civilians who lives on the island - has gone missing. Tending the warden's greenhouse, convicted bank robber Tommy Capello waits anxiously. Only he knows the truth about the little girl's whereabouts and that both of their lives depend on the search's outcome.

Almost two decades earlier and thousands of miles away, a young boy named Shanley Keagan ekes out a living as an aspiring vaudevillian in Dublin pubs. Talented and shrewd, Shan dreams of shedding his dingy existence and finding his real father in America. The chance finally comes to cross the Atlantic, but when tragedy strikes, Shan must summon all his ingenuity to forge a new life in a volatile and foreign world.

Skillfully weaving these two stories, Kristina McMorris delivers a compelling novel that moves from Ireland to New York to the San Francisco Bay. As her finely crafted characters discover the true nature of loyalty, sacrifice, and betrayal, they are forced to confront the lies we tell - and believe - in order to survive.

$3.99 -- I Must Say -- Martin Short/ Martin Short --> 8.7 hrs/ R-4.6 --> memoir

Quote:
I Must Say: My Life as a Humble Comedy Legend

Whispersync: the Audible book is $12.99, if you own or borrow the Kindle ebook ($14.99)

In this engagingly witty, wise, and heartfelt memoir, Martin Short tells the tale of how a showbiz-obsessed kid from Canada transformed himself into one of Hollywood’s favorite funnymen, known to his famous peers as the "comedian’s comedian".

Martin Short takes you on a rich, hilarious, and occasionally heartbreaking ride through his life and times, from his early years in Toronto as a member of the fabled improvisational troupe Second City to the all-American comic big time of Saturday Night Live and memorable roles in movies such as ¡Three Amigos! and Father of the Bride. He reveals how he created his most indelible comedic characters, among them the manic man-child Ed Grimley, the slimy corporate lawyer Nathan Thurm, and the bizarrely insensitive interviewer Jiminy Glick. Throughout, Short freely shares the spotlight with friends, colleagues, and collaborators, including Steve Martin, Tom Hanks, Gilda Radner, Mel Brooks, Nora Ephron, Eugene Levy, Catherine O’Hara, Paul Shaffer, and David Letterman.

But there is another side to Short's life that he has long kept private. He lost his eldest brother and both of his parents by the time he turned 20, and, more recently, he lost his wife of 30 years to cancer. In I Must Say, Short talks for the first time about the pain that these losses inflicted and the upbeat life philosophy that has kept him resilient and carried him through. In the grand tradition of comedy legends, Martin Short offers a show business memoir densely populated with boldface names and rife with re-tellable tales: a hugely entertaining yet surprisingly moving self-portrait that will keep you laughing - and crying - from the first page to the last.

Special Lyrics for "It's The Most Wonderful Show of the Year" and "Picture-Perfect Christmas In The Palisades" by Martin Short, Marc Shaiman, and Scott Wittman; Special Lyrics for “Marty Throws a Party Just to Sing" by Marc Shaiman.

Audible -- Free Audiobook

This is from a thread in the Audiobook Discussions forum. If you want a free Audible book, go to that thread and make your requests. This offer is in addition to any promotional offers or trial periods you currently have and does not count against any of your credits.

Audible "Send this Book" Requests
Quote:
This program went live to the US public on 11 May. Up until then, it was in beta and known as Audible Onebook. Some of you have already used it; not so for me. Anyway, the bottom line is that this program will allow you to get one, and only one, free audiobook from other Audible users. After that, any audiobooks sent to you must be paid for.

The purpose of this thread is to allow members to request a particular audiobook from other members. Once you redeem this book, you're no longer eligible to receive any more free books under this program. You can still continue to participate by sending books to other members.
Note: US customers only -- see T&C for details

Fantastic Ratings on the Ebook and Audio on this Inexpensive ($2.98) WS Deal!

They have fantastic ratings especially for the book to be a self-pub.

There are some Christian-oriented allusions, etc. in this book, but they appear to be relatively subdued. A general listenership/readership might enjoy this.

WS Deal on #1 Seller in U.S. Colonial Period History--$7.98 (Audio Alone $38.95).

I am genuinely embarassed to post a Whispersync deal this expensive (people have told me not to be, but I can't help it, I'm a thoroughgoing penny pincher). But it's still $31 cheaper than the audio alone at Audible. And with the narration being 26 hours and 10 minutes long, there's huge bang for the buck and punch for the pound here.

One negative: the narration is a little slow (the narrator doesn't talk fast enough) for my tastes, at least. However, you may have an MP3 player which will allow you to increase the play speed, should you have an interest in doing that.

Title: The Barbarous Years: The Peopling of British North America: The Conflict of Civilizations, 1600-1675.
Genre: Non-Fiction (U.S. History).
Author(s): Bernard Bailyn.
Price: $7.98 ($1.99 ebook (marked down) + $5.99 Whispersync audio).
Regular Price of Audio, by Itself, at Audible: $38.95 (1 credit).
Ebook Rating/Number of Reviews: 4.2 stars/112 reviews (Amazon).
Audio Rating/Number of Ratings: 4.0/41 ratings.
Pages/Audio Length: 642/26 hours and 10 minutes.
Narrator(s): Henry Strozier.
Audible URL: http://www.audible.com/pd/History/Th...ok/B00ECH5C0U/.
Amazon URL (you can get the whole Whispersync deal here): https://www.amazon.com/Barbarous-Yea...dp/B0082XLXOO/.
Comments:
Book Description (Amazon):
Bernard Bailyn gives us a compelling account of the first great transit of people from Britain, Europe, and Africa to British North America, their involvements with each other, and their struggles with the indigenous peoples of the eastern seaboard.
They were a mixed multitude—from England, the Netherlands, the German and Italian states, France, Africa, Sweden, and Finland. They moved to the western hemisphere for different reasons, from different social backgrounds and cultures, and under different auspices and circumstances. Even the majority that came from England fit no distinct socioeconomic or cultural pattern. They came from all over the realm, from commercialized London and the southeast; from isolated farmlands in the north still close to their medieval origins; from towns in the Midlands, the south, and the west; from dales, fens, grasslands, and wolds. They represented the entire spectrum of religious communions from Counter-Reformation Catholicism to Puritan Calvinism and Quakerism.
They came hoping to re-create if not to improve these diverse lifeways in a remote and, to them, barbarous environment. But their stories are mostly of confusion, failure, violence, and the loss of civility as they sought to normalize abnormal situations and recapture lost worlds. And in the process they tore apart the normalities of the people whose world they had invaded.
Later generations, reading back into the past the outcomes they knew, often gentrified this passage in the peopling of British North America, but there was nothing genteel about it. Bailyn shows that it was a brutal encounter—brutal not only between the Europeans and native peoples and between Europeans and Africans, but among Europeans themselves. All, in their various ways, struggled for survival with outlandish aliens, rude people, uncultured people, and felt themselves threatened with descent into squalor and savagery. In these vivid stories of individual lives—some new, some familiar but rewritten with new details and contexts—Bailyn gives a fresh account of the history of the British North American population in its earliest, bitterly contested years.

Unless I'm going blind, there wasn't a link for it anywhere on my account page. Perhaps my membership order didn't go through, there was some question in my mind about it. But I do have an account of some kind, that's for sure; but it may just be a provisional account of some kind, where I just am set up to get emails from them and things like that.

yes it was, I use gordonshumway in some other forums.

Now that I've cancelled the menus open to me have changed and my memory is dodgy as but if there's a side menu that offers membership details then click it I recall that cancel option may be on that page.

I could not even figure out how to use the code. Did you enter it when signing up for a new membership? Or somehow when buying the audiobook (the process I remember was play three minutes, then click to purchase, but I don't remember a cart checkout that would have allowed for a coupon.

A box appears at a point just past halfway down, if you don't do any scrolling, on this webpage. Above the box, it says, "Have a Gift or Promo Code?" In the box, of course, is where you want to put the code. There's a blue button that says "Apply" beside the box where you enter the code Click on it. When I used SWIMGUIDE and clicked "Apply," the system quickly accepted it.

Thanks for your info above.
