The problem that concerns me is that reading the Oasis without it's cover will use up that little battery almost 6 times faster than reading on a Paperwhite, leaving a very expensive paperweight.
Exactly. And you have the deniers ignoring this because for some reason they seem too emotionally invested in this device.

That's funny, because I always have a laugh at those who have a laugh at others because they laugh at those who also laugh....now, wait a minute...where was I?

Oh, well, I guess that people have an emotional involvement in the Oasis because they.....like it! What a curious idea!

Wow, emotions, about reading. Shocking.

In other news, water is still wet

I get emotional because I can read amazing stories without pain in my hands or eyes.

That's not the curious aspect of it. The curious aspect is how it blinds them to an extent that they dismiss offhand perfectly valid concerns raised about the device.

Maybe because some of us don't have any of those concerns? And some of us actually own the device and have been using it for a while and still don't have any of those so called concerns? I have kindles going back to 2008 and so far none of the batteries have died. The K1 I put a new one in after a year or so of use as it was a refurb. They all still work fine.

So of course I dismiss something that isn't a concern to me, based on first hand experience. Its this insistence by some odd reasons to tell those of us that that quite happy with the Oasis as it is that we are somehow blind to something that doesn't exist to us. Its bizarre to me.

Don't like the Oasis, don't get it. Like it, get it. Doesn't make me blind if I use a device and like it.

Reading about a concern once is interesting. Reading the same concern on multiple boards without any confirmation except conjecture is really quite boring. Why would one post so much against a device unless they are emotionally attached against it?

Oh, the humanity!

Nice to hear you don't have those concerns. That is irrelevant to the situation. Why try and censor or mock people who do do have concerns you do not?

Did the K1 have a 250mAH battery? No, it had a ~1350 mAh battery. Your experience with the K1 is irrelevant to the discussion on the 250mAh battery on the Oasis main device.

Do not dismiss that which you are ignorant about. If you cannot contribute anything meaningful, stay out and let those who know what they're talking about talk.

Wow, we have an expert. The device is designed to work with the charging case. Why is that so difficult to understand. Furthermore the post about never having a Kindle battery go bad is relevant as you are soothsaying it will go bad if you use it alone, not as it was designed or even as most of us will use it. One wonders how many you own?

Do you have comprehension issues? This shows that you didn't even bother to understand Barryem and katie1's posts.

The selling point of the device is that it can be used separately from the case.
A single charge on the device battery lasts 6-7 hours because it's a puny 250mAh battery.
Batteries have limited charging cycles.
A smaller battery will use up those limited charging cycles much faster than a bigger battery and lose it's staying power on a charge much faster, and dies sooner too
Charging cycles are charging cycles, and it makes no difference if the puny battery is being charged from a power outlet or USB or the case - as far as it's lifecycle goes - they're all equivalent. Just because you use the case to recharge, as opposed to USB, it makes absolutely no difference to it's inexorable march towards death (do you finally understand why it makes such a huge difference when a battery is 250 mAH as opposed to 1350??)
What you're going to have is an Oasis where the case battery will chug along merrily for long, but when your device battery itself stops holding a long enough (or any at all) charge, it completely takes away the option of using the device on it's own (which was a major selling point).

We all understand what you keep repeating. That is comprehension issues. It can be read from just the device and is just great when used that way. When I am done reading I slip it back in the case. If you are so right we will all find out if we have not moved to another device. Are you really waiting for someone to anoint you as the bearer of all knowledge? Looks like some bridge is without its troll today.

This is not a matter of opinion, for crying out loud. It's established science. Do you also call evolution and vaccines and the like 'conjecture' and mock anyone who talks about them as know-it-alls and "bearers of all knowledge"??

Unbelievable.

You ignore all points that do not make your points the primary reason for or against buying the Oasis. I have not seen anybody saying you have no point. I see many not agreeing it is a primary reason for or against buying the device. Nothing to do with science.

I'm not trying to upset anyone. I have a concern about a potential problem with the Oasis. I don't pretend to know that it's a real problem but I think it's likely to be real and I don't want to buy one till I'm more confident.

For people who have bought one, fine. If you're enjoying it I'm glad. If I'm right about this problem in the worse case you should get a couple of years use out of it at least. If I'm wrong you'll get a lot more. If two years for $400 is worthwhile to you then you don't really have anything to worry about. I'm happy with my Voyage and my Paperwhite so I'm not going to spend that much on the latest model until I know more.

I think it's kind of silly to get upset about this or to get upset about someone getting upset about it. It's a possible problem down the road. That's all. If I had one I'd want to be aware of it.

And that is fine, you want to think about it some more. But in order to know for sure if there might possibly be problems 2 years down the road, that is a mighty long wait. There might be a new device by then.

My Oasis didn't cost $400, but then I am in the US and don't need 3G. I actually didn't pay anything at all as I used giftcards I earn with surveys.
But then I buy most of my kindles with such gift cards and points I earn for paying bills that turn into gift cards. Otherwise I probably would have continued using the Voyage until I had saved up enough to finally buy the Oasis.

Anything happening to the Oasis package in the next year will be covered by Amazon. I don't worry, they have the best customer service.
