geekmaster,
I am just going to assume the TV show comment was an example of Internet humor coming across the wrong way. But if you want to do something really productive with Kindles, I am sure you are aware we need a new miracle jailbreak. ![]() Last edited by eschwartz; 05-20-2016 at 03:55 PM. |

Well now what do your friends do that they think is productive?
As to TV, I rarely watch it either. Thanks for making me feel like a baby-collector. I only have about 3000 books. 3 times that of e-books. Over half are cookbooks. ![]() I am also a crafter, numerous times I have been told I wish I had the time to do something like that. Amusing thing is every time I hear that, the other person is doing the exact same thing I am. Waiting on something. So how I have the time and they don't boggles the mind. But they have the time to talk to the one person that actually brought something productive to do. |

Regarding misinterpreting humor, and others not understanding mine, just blame it on Asperger's Syndrome, eh? [Yeah, teachers sent calculus books home with me in gradeschool, and shrinks said my IQ is "off the charts and cannot be measured accurately", and in my younger days I had an "industry-wide reputation of bailing companies out of the fire" (and my peers shunned me when my code was adopted as a corporate-wide coding standard), but that just makes me feel guilty that I cannot save the world, and makes my friends and relatives upset that I never got rich enough to support them; but somehow money always seemed so artificial and of little importance to me, until I am finally at a point where I actually NEED it.] Last edited by geekmaster; 05-20-2016 at 04:29 PM. |

Fellow aspie.

I am in my 60's (which until recently I thought of as "approaching middle age") and I do not collect disability even though I have been eligible for it for decades. I have always been proud of my ability to support myself. Though these days daily life is a challenge, and little hope of keeping any sort of "normal job" for long. Though I can certainly accomplish great things, but in my own time as my health allows, not on somebody else's schedule. I really should dedicate my waking hours to ignoring medical advice and rebuilding my body and mind despite the roadblocks the doctors place in my way... But then when would I have time for studying "heap spraying" and ASLR (address space layout randomization) defeats, which are increasingly more necessary for recent kindle jailbreaks (making me think that lab126 finally hired and aspie to fix their firmware security holes), eh?

Oh and I am the same way with money: if someone tells me I need the latest and greatest whatever, I tell them since you THINK I need it, you can pay for it. Why do they always decide I don't need that whatever after all. Oh and to anyone that has heck peeling eggs. I have a never-fail solution. When someone says oh my method is the greatest: hand them the eggs. I didn't say you were peeling the eggs just a never fail method to get the eggs peeled. |

@geekmaster, I apologize for my earlier comment.
I come from a family of "collectors". Growing up we had a basement full of broken stuff that was going to be fixed and reused "someday". I started out living that way myself. At this point in my life I am try to downsize my collection of items that I have no actual use for. I find it difficult and for me watching shows like the one I linked gives me extra incentive. But that is about me, not you. I am sorry for not thinking enough about how you might take it. |

I have actually had people (that do absolutely nothing but watch "reality" tv call me a HOARDER because I have extra yarn, floss, needles etc. One woman even said that anything not used in the particular project should go in the trash and that you should buy EVERY THING new every time you start a project. She even said because I kept a sewing machine I was a worthless trashy hoarder. She also said that my kitchen was hoarding because I had more than 1 pan, 1 skillet, 2 plates, 2 bowls and 2 sets of silverware. She also wanted to throw my food away because I have more than a week's worth. Oh and all the books should go to the trash. Oh and whatever you do, throw away any clothes that are out of season. Needless to say, she was NEVER invited back to my house. Note: by the time she was finished, I was thinking of new ways to use some of the crafting supplies. My opinion is if you know someone won't throw out their trash then by all means try to get them help. If it is someone that actually uses the stuff in their hobbies, don't imply (even accidentally that the show Hoarders might help. There is a big difference. Just because I am not using DMC # 108 in this particular project doesn't mean I won't need it in the next one. Oh and some people don't drive or live within a block of a store so just running to the store is not always an option. But then again people have implied I was trashy for a job I once held. It was legal and the kids got fed. |

Warning: On-Topic Post
The serial cable and the connector pairs have shipped.
Digi-Key is a bit higher priced than other major electronics distributors, but ship fast? The do fast real good (I placed my order 6 hours ago.) No word from Amazon (yet). = = = = Now, back to our off-topic chatter while waiting for things to arrive. Last edited by knc1; 05-20-2016 at 06:50 PM. |
