Mine just updated to 5.7.4.1 ..... Any clue what I should see LOL The Whats New drop down has nothing on it about this up date.

Why is KPW3 firmware newer than KO? KPW3 is older than KO.

No new features, just some bug fixes as the release notes said. However this update is at least 2 weeks old.

But being a Non-Techy didn't want to voice it & be wrong

As for how old this update is it didn't say..any more than it says what its for.

I have no clue Why PW3 update before any other Kindle.

All I know is I turned on the Wifi on my PW3 to DL some e-books & it updated...figured since it hadn't been mentioned I let others know

You can test the VoiceView feature without installing the VoiceView update. When plugging in a cheap generic (99-cent) USB sound dongle, my PW3 announces (in text and speech) that it cannot find the voice files, and that I should download them from amazon.com. And of course, I can now play music on my PW3, even without the voice files. Though it complains about missing files every time I plug in my USB sound device, so I will install the voice files just to make it shut up.

And by the way, it seems that plugging in a USB sound device makes the USB networking hack (maintained by NiLuJe) no longer work until a kindle restart. We need NiLuJe to fix that for us, and he needs a PW3 to test on. We are trying to fix that situation by acquiring and donating what he needs to fix this problem for us. We did this for YifanLu, so he could get us a jailbreak on a new device, so we should be able to do this for NiLuJe too, right?

It is the 'low end' (lowest cost) Kindle model with enough RAM to support Amazon's HUGE tts files.

I note that this thread relates to the Paperwhite 3, which several have had update to FW 5.7.4.1.

I have a PW2, currently running 5.7.4. I had thought to update it to 5.7.4.1, but on visiting the Amazon page for my PW software updates, the latest available is 5.7.4.

So, I am wondering, is 5.7.4.1 specific to the PW3?
