New 13.3" Onyx Boox. Rumours, prototype specs, first pictures - Page 30

Dear Booxtor,

thank you very much for your reply. I am happy, if I get as much options as possible to control this device!
And I will definitely buy an e-Reader from your store... However could you help me to solve also some other questions...?

1.) Most pc-mice datasheets mention that they will work with Microsoft Windows or Mac and dont mention Android... However will they also work with Onyx Boox or would I need a mouse, which is explicitly made for Android? For example, I would like to buy this https://www.logitech.com/de-de/produ...ywhere2?crid=7 or this https://www.logitech.com/de-de/product/mx-master?crid=7 mouse... Do you know, if they will work?

2.) I visited your store for a replacement-stylus and I found one... However i didn't found any replacement-nibs... Will there be some replacement-nibs in the near-future? What can I do, when I ruined the original nib? Do wacom nibs also fit?

3.) I know that Sony DPT-S1 has an option for AES data encryption - so someone will need a password, if he wanna use this device... Is there also such an option for Onyx Boox Max/n96?

4.) I am only interessted in reading PDFs... Do you think that a 9.7 Inch screen is as good as a 13.3 Inch screen for reading PDFs? At least in landscape-mode? Is it true that 9.7 Inch are in landscape mode as width as 13.3 Inch in portrait-mode?

5.) At minute 2:52 in this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1WeiE5DU880 you will see how the reviewer changes the settings for reading a PDF... Could you tell me if these changed settings will stay, if he closes the PDF and then open another PDF...? This is important for me, because I want to optimize the n96 for my PDF-Needs - but I dont want to do this everytime I open a new PDF...
Hm... Or in other words: I dont want to optimize the settings for an pdf everytime I open a new one... So i would prefer it, if the settings stay how I changed them! Is this possible?

"Concerning USB Host mode - it worked on some of my earlier samples of M96 and T68. However Onyx decided to disable it later since some connected devices caused problems with fast battery drain . Sometimes batteries were discharged lower than allowed LiPO batteries threshold voltage, which made it impossible to recharge them without some special tools. This obviously caused complains by users."

So, no usb keyboard support for now.

@Willy Tärk I have the previous version the M96 plus, I can answer the landscape mode and the setting questions.

As for the settings, they stay saved for the PDF file you set it for, this is good as you don't want all the PDFs to have the same setting (based on my experience), so when I open book A and set the zooming and the reading settings, they are saved even when I switch to another book.

As for landscape mode, the books look WOW! really, very readable, also you will find that you don't need this for most books, if you apply margin cropping or just reflow the text, unfortunately reflow the text decrease the quality of the text (depending on the font type), but cropping with scrolling is always my friend, never failed me.

I still find myself thinking about replacing my 9.7" with a 13.3", mostly because I like to read in portrait mode (I think it's psychological), I'm trying to save a little and order an Onyx one, although I don't like the weight and the button position which is something I ranted a lot about to Booxter

, with Onyx the software reader and the note taking are really well done and fast + the service is excellent.

Hope this helps. If there was a way to attach photos to my post I would have snapped some agains a book or a newspaper to show you how the font looks.

Until now I could pair and test every BT mouse on Onyx devices without any problem. So I am quite sure - those Logitech BT mice will be supported as well.

You will not need to replace nib on your stylus. It is another technique than Wacom.

You can encrypt your account, settings, downloaded apps and their data, media, and other files.

I still would suggest to take 13.3" device. You will be able to read any kind of PDFs without playing with zoom , crop etc.

In case you take a smaller than 13.3" ereader, you would have to adjust your settings reading for every PDF, since each PDF document is not like another. Once set those setting will be saved for every PDF on your device separately. Different font size, different margins, different column number, different layout of the page etc. It is impossible to use same settings as e.g. for previously read PDF and get proper result. However there are a lot of smart tools in the Neo reader, which allow you to optimize displaying of your PDFs very easily and quickly.

Hi,
as far as I remember (I didn't use M92 for more than one year now) in M92 you can open EPUBs also with FB Reader or CoolReader and change font settings and margins there. Why don't you try it?

If you want to visualize two pages of your EPUB or FB2 document in landscape, you can open it with Oreader , open menu (click in the middle or menu button), go to More -> Settings ->Properties->Show columns-> Two columns in landscape.

as far as I remember (I didn't use M92 for more than one year now) in M92 you can open EPUBs also with FB Reader or CoolReader and change font settings and margins there. Why don't you try it?

Hello Booxter,

FBReader don't show all pictures
FBReader and Coolreader don't support the all type of links/references
The rendering : Coolreader - the rendering for technical books is ugly, FBreader - it's better, but not usable for the technical books (O'Reilly or Pragmatic Bookshelf)

The Onyx's PDF reader is really the better. Two settings are missing in the M92 : font and the width of margins.

So, with the MAX and the Onyx's reader could you change the font and the margins ?

1. You actually don't need additional USB divers. Your PC should recognise connected Boox as an USB storage using own drivers.
2. viewing 2 pages of a PDF at once is a future option of NEO, which should be implemented in the 1.8 Update (AFAIK)
