Nope! Not lately anyway. Recent amazon firmware updates contain code with comments claiming they prevent firmware downgrade "attacks". Your link describes a firmware updrade, not a downgrade.

Though for now, you can downgrade to 5.6.5 using an internal TTL serial port, with a USB serial adapter (as described in a dedicated sticky thread in this forum).

But of course, if you have a serial port connection, there is no need to downgrade, you can jb the Kindle over the serial port, regardless of the firmware version.

That message is a normal part of the jailbreak procedure . Read the instructions. However, a number of folks (including myself) were not successful jailbreakin our PW2s using the newer simplified method in the first post.

Try following the instructions EXACTLY, beyond the message you described, to completion. If still not working, you could try the ORIGINAL (though more complicated) instructions linked in the first post. If that fails, use the serial jailbreak method in a sticky thread in this forum.

I don't understand what I do.

Not simple for beginners -- which is why it is no longer the first post. Perhaps easier for you to do the serial jailbreak then? But that requires peeling the front bezel off without damaging the glass or the eink cables, and a modicum of soldering skills (or foam/pins/tape as described elsewhere). Or find a techie in your area to help you.

Yes, that is the current state of my PW2. Waiting for me to find (or buy) a TTL serial adapter, so I can use the serial jailbreak method linked above.

A tailored search in this thread and my nickname *should* make it pop out easily .

You'll need Python on a computer somewhere in your network, though.

EDIT: But since you got a fancy new update, you're screwed. I maybe should have lead with that ^^.

Despite reports that this software JB is failing on 5.6.5 firmwares - -

Follow the directions exactly, and everything works just as described / as intended.

That includes using the "update to 5.6.5" packages on the page linked to in the first post.
