Updated Voyage now opens to last page read!

I decided to restore my Voyage to factory settings as I had put too many books on it and the battery was draining every few days (or whatever). I typically do this every 6 months or so with my ereaders.

Always, when I open the cover, there is a cover page and I have to swipe to get to the "last page read." I thought this was because I had advertisements.

The point is that when I was done with the Restore, I loaded a few books (<10!) and started reading. Now, when I open the cover, the "sleep" page flashes for a second and then it automatically returns to the last page read!

This had been my only real complaint about the device, so I am very pleased. I had no idea that I would get this feature, so figured I'd write this post in case anyone else wants to try. The auto-brightness feature seems to be more precise as well. This is a great feature as I read in way-varying lighting conditions each day. Cannot distinguish any other changes, but this is quite enough

I am very pleased with the Voyage after using it for 6 months, reading 2-5 hours every day. I am an older reader with not-so-great eyesight and it is soothing for my eyes, even after many hours reading.

The reason the ads don't work anymore as they should is because your factory reset unregistered the Kindle on the device. If you log back in, you will have to swipe again after opening the cover.

I did log back in to my account. Well, as long as it lasts, I am pleased. I didn't want to pay the addt'l cost to remove the special offers. I don't mind them, just the splash page. My other kindle (3) also had special offers - but no splash page, as I remember.

Why not just remove the special offers?

Just ask customer services to remove the ads. It's a tiny fee, and if you're a good customer they might even waive the fee.

Not to change the subject but I bought my Kindle with Special Offers.
I don't mind a few obvious ads but is it just me, or has the "Special Offers" completely stopped and now they are all ads?

I remember getting offers to get this book, or other Amazon products at a discount that was linked to my email.
I never see that again.

Special offers are ads. Always have been.
Do you mean you had to use your email to get the offer?
As in put in an email and a password.
Or are you talking about offers made only to prime members?

Yes...there used to be actual special offers that were only available to people who had the SO kindles. I haven't seen one of those for years, though.

I bought my so kindles in about 2013 and 2014 and I had never seen SO's just for me.

The first year they had SO Kindles, there definitely were a lot of good offers via the ads. Many of us more than made up for the cost of the Kindle with what we saved through special offers on items we would have purchased anyway even without special offers. But then Amazon pulled the old bait and switch routine and the special offers were on crap no one cared to buy. Then eventually they went away altogether. Now just ads from what I hear. I always pay to have them turned off.

Yep, have you ever wondered why they call it "Special Offers"?
Showing an advertisement for some random book, is not a special offer.

I don't mind but call it what it is, Kindle with Ads.

I know the marketing team will find it tough charging $300 with the words "with Ads" in the title but let's be honest.
