It may not be the most suited solution, but I think that staying stuck with my Galaxy S3 for an undefined amount of time until something new is released is what I'll be doing. The reading experience on such an Android device has almost all of the features that I ask for, even though a bit inconsistently.
I don't know how pleasurable it may be reading for longer periods on a just 4.7 inches big display, though. |

Contrary to what others have said, you can download an Adobe DRM-encumbered library book, import it into calibre (with Alf's magic), convert the resulting ePub into a Kindle format, and sideload that (or mail it to your @kindle.com address) no problem.

@jgoguen,
But now you are in violation of the forum guidelines, for encouraging ebook piracy. ![]() Note: DeDRM of books you own is arguably Fair Use. DeDRM of library books is simply wrong, legally and ethically. |

I am not encouraging piracy. Get your content legitimately, end of story. What I'm encouraging is format shifting to use the device of your choice with content you can legally and legitimately get. DRM removal of any content, obtained in any manner, has both legitimate and illegitimate uses. If I sign out a book for 21 days, format-shift it to my Kindle, and remove it before those 21 days are up, I have (except for the DRM removal, depending on your local laws) complied with the agreement. Part of the reason I use a Kindle and Kobo right now is some libraries I have access to only offer some books in either ePub or Kindle formats and where I live now forbids removing DRM even if you fully comply with copyright and intellectual property laws.
So no, I'm not encouraging piracy. I'm encouraging what is in some places (and ought to be everywhere) perfectly legal format shifting. It remains each person's responsibility to be aware of their local laws around format shifting (e.g. I can keep up with relevant information but I'm forbidden from actually doing any of it) and to comply with relevant agreements and contracts (such as how long you may keep a file before deleting all copies). |

If you buy something you own it and should be able to do what you want with it.
If you BORROW something, it is not yours and you should leave it the way you found it and NOT make a copy. So yes, that is piracy. |

When I download something from Overdrive, I do make a copy. One copy is in ADE and the other copy is in my H2O. There is no way for me not to make a copy.

The copy on the H2O goes away when I delete it from the H2O. When the copy in ADE expires or is returned, it does not go away.
When you delete an eBook from ADE, it stays in the directory with all the other eBooks but is no longer part of the library. When you return a borrowed eBook, it stays in the directory with all the other eBooks but is no longer part of the library. When an a borrowed eBook expires, it is still part of the library but is no longer readable. The library in this case is the local ADE library on your computer. So unless you go into the Digital Editions directory and delete all the expired/deleted/returned eBooks, you will just be filling up the hard drive with files you will never use. |

I received a forum update via e-mail and read the latest news of this thread. I'll add my own too with regard to the thread subject.
I'm indeed using my Galaxy S3 as a reading device and getting along pretty well with it. Few days ago I started using the PocketBook Android application and loaded into it a library lent book and a novel purchased from the Kobo Store, both of them DRMed. They are read perfectly and the app has plenty of nice, very useful and well-balanced features; I won't speak of the dictionary integration beside the fact that it is very easy and efficient to share words to external dictionary apps. I think I'm still not finding a flaw on such a solution. The screen type and the battery duration could only be moderately nasty problems if I were to read for very long hours. Still of the idea of waiting for the release of newer e-reading devices, especially PocketBook. |

The main flaw would of course be the screen type and battery duration.
![]() Which, as you stand evidence to, is not something which bothers everybody. |
