When I noticed there's now an option not to close Word after a convert I thought I'd take another look at the Word->ePUB converter
It would appear as consequence of doing that Word is stuck on straight quotes, I cannot get it to show smart quotes, nor can I get it to replace straight quotes with curly quotes - despite the following And I can't find some of the Tools I cannot imagine why running the Convert EPUB would have caused this, but I'm almost certain it did. The one unusual thing is that I had several documents open - as I normally do. The Convert converted the one I opened most recently rather than the one I was looking at - so it was a fruitless exercise anyway. I'll try uninstalling EPUBTools, but I have a feeling I will have to reinstall Office 2010 and try to remember how I shoehorned Word 2007 into the equation to work with Outlook 2007. But I'll sleep on it first Ψ² BR |

I have found a workaround of sorts - the Autoformat Now command, I'd never heard of it until now

Solved
There are two settings in Word that relate to straight/smart quotes (don't ask me why), the one I posted before and this one - which I discovered was OFF.
I haven't been near the Autocorrect options in years. Does EPUBtools change this during conversion (or anywhere else), if it does then it should probably put it back as it was. Whew - BR |

Like I said, when the tools are depending on a certain setting of the parameter, it is switched back at the end. |

I think it all relates to the fact that I have multiple documents open in Office Tabs tabs, if you went back to when I started using the tools you'd see I had all sorts of issues with conversion, that's why I never used it.
As well as the smart quotes issue each of the 7 documents I had open had a couple of odd styles attached to them and applied, everything that was Normal became something like List Indent One or List 2, there is no way I would have done that. In all my other documents they are hidden until used - and they're never used. Luckily Word can search for styles. Re the Ribbon hiding settings, I missed seeing the lower ones. I did stretch the window to make it taller, but the scroll bar doesn't stretch with the window, and PgDn PgUp don't move anything, so after Sorry if I came across a bit harsh, I was on a tight deadline - all sorted now. ====================== If you're doing anything with Mark, would it it possible to issue a message as to whether or not anything was Marked. When nothing is Marked I'm left wondering - did I click it hard enough ![]() BR Last edited by BetterRed; 04-19-2016 at 08:21 PM. |

Perhaps the functionality of Office Tabs messes with the add-in in some way. It might be that they change the ActiveDocument in some way to make the tabs possible.
The effect with the styles cannot come from the add-in, I can say that for sure. The smart quotes does nothing with styles at all, it is just a sequence of Search and Replace actions to change the quotes to smart quotes and fix a lot (all?) of the errors that Word makes with quotes. There are two procedures that do something with style. That is the preparation procedure that checks for headers and lists that are not lists and the HTML export procedure, but only if you have activated that you want to export user styles. Even then, it only reads the styles, not apply styles. In a way also the cleanup procedure works with styles, as this will remove a lot of styles. Again, not applying. The effect you describe with the settings and the scrollbar I will investigate, that should not happen of course. Isn't there a message when the Mark procedure is finished? I might have forgotten to implement that and this will be corrected of course. |

But, if I could find a way to use Conversion within the context of Office Tabs it would streamline my workflow, because I could go directly into an Epub editor without having to switch to something else to fire up Sigil or ebook-editor. BTW why can't the converter get the languages from the document. I assiduously mark the text with English (UK) and French (France), then the Converter the asks for a language, and to add insult to injury it defaults to English (Elizabethan US)! Quote:
Marked 32 words using D:\BabbleOn\ePUB Tools\Mark Rules\IT_jargon.xml But, all I really need to know is that it marked some or none. If it's none I know not to look for marked words - and maybe check which word list I used, I might have looked for IT-Jargon in a Dryden comedy ![]() BR |

There was a free version but I cant see it now, I can't recall why I switched to the paid version but it wasn't altruism - i.e. there was a functional reason, maybe the number of tabs.
I won't be able to give any time to testing Conversion before mid July at the earliest. BR |

In the preparation step there is a phase that tries to guess where there are section breaks. It checks the margins between paragraphs for that, since most OCR programs use that. However, since a lot of post-processing ignores the margins, marks are set where there are section breaks. Those marks are paragraphs with a marker (if set). So, my guess was correct.

Can't seem to get an epub out of Toxaris's ePub Tools
I have installed Toxaris's Epub Tools for Word (2007). However, when I click on Convert to Html, nothing seems to happen. The online manual says "After the conversion the HTML document will be opened in Word," but no such file opens in Word, nor can I find an html document of that name in the folder where the Word doc resides.
If I click on Generate ePub, I get the message "HTML conversion has not yet run." So I go into Settings and check "Process conversion to HTML automatically." Now, when I click on Generate ePub, the Word doc works very busily, but again, there is no epub of that name in the folder I am working in, nor in any other folder on my computer. What do you suppose is happening here? |

Apparently something does not go right. The option 'Process conversion to HTML automatically' does work, but uses the same process underneath. So, if the general conversion does not work, neither will that option.
Now, with regards to your issue. Lets try to figure out what goes wrong here. Can you sent me the logfile and perhaps your settings file in %appdata%\Toxaris? There is one known issue with the current release (which should be fixed in the source) with regards to retaining stylenames with spaces. The cause behind this issue is that this is not supported in CSS of course. Therefore the stylenames will be renamed (the space will be omitted). This used to work fine, but a new functionality introduced this bug. If this is the case for you, than it is fixed. If not, please let me know so a more detailed bug hunting can be done. I would probably need a copy of your Word document (text can be garbled, I don't care). If you can sent me this by PM, I can take a look. There is probably something in the document that confuses the program. Hmm, perhaps I should add a garble text option for bug reporting. Last edited by Toxaris; 05-07-2016 at 01:43 AM. |

Thank you. (Took me a while to find this thread, since I'd posted in the Epub forum.) I fell back on Word2CleanHtml dot com and will pursue this further when I am done. I am working straight out this month.

I just wanted to say that I have the same problem as NotJohn. After I installed the new version, I was able to covert my first document to HTML just fine, but when I went to convert the second document, the "convert to HTML button" was greyed out an doesn't work at all. Don't know what to do, but will look at settings file.
