EB Garamond, I believe, is the best free typeface.
Where does one get the current version of EB Gramond?

The page is here: http://www.georgduffner.at/ebgaramond/

Last version is 0.016, don't download it from Google.

This is my optimized version for eInk: http://drop.muratcansimsek.com/EBGaramond.zip. I use this with Kobo.

Just tested the Bookerly font for eInk 1.010 on the Kobo Aura H2O.
Seems good! Italic is normal italic, not bold (using EPUB).
The regular font display darker than LCD 1.000. No need to increase weight at first sight.

I finally found some time to test again.
I extracted again the eInk font and copied to fonts folder without any modification. Then restarted the eReader, and I'm still getting italic as bold-italic... can't figure out what I'm doing wrong.
I'm happy with Georgia, so not a big problem, just wondering why it is not working with my Glo HD.

@Cex Try renaming the font variants, I found that to work on my Glo HD. I enjoyed it for about a day before I went back to Amasis.
Bookerly-Regular -> Bookerly.ttf
Bookerly-Italic -> Bookerly-i.ttf
Bookerly-Bold -> Bookerly-b.ttf
Bookerly-BoldItalic -> Bookerly-z.ttf

Regenerate the font files with Fontforge with corrected names.

@Kyl. Thanks, I'll try this again.

@GERGE. Which are the correct names? I tried several names/combinations/regenerations/hinting removal and I always get the same result, except for the names proposed by Kyl were I got all the text in bold if I'm not wrong. I'll check again anyway.

Thanks.

One thing to check is that you don't still have an old version of the font on the device. The ePub reader can select the wrong font if there are two fonts with similar names.

e.g. I have "Courier Prime" which works fine, but if I add another font called "Courier Prime Sans" then I can no longer select the original "Courier Prime" in the ePub reader, I just get "Courier Prime Sans" instead when I try. I would have to rename them something like "Courier Prime Serif" and "Courier Prime Sans" if I wanted to be able to select both versions of the font. (And by rename, I mean change the internal names with fontforge, not just rename the files.)

after checking the font files and finding them to have ok meta data (posting the same thing over and over again does not help anybody serge... ) i found this working for me and my H2O:

.extracted bookerly and ember from the oasis update file (explained in a earlyer post in this thread)
.renamed the files as follows:

Bookerly-Regular -> Bookerly-a.ttf
Bookerly-Italic -> Bookerly-b.ttf
Bookerly-Bold -> Bookerly-c.ttf
Bookerly-BoldItalic -> Bookerly-d.ttf

Amazon-Ember-Regular -> Amazon-Ember-a.ttf
Amazon-Ember-Italic-> Amazon-Ember-b.ttf
Amazon-Ember-Bold -> Bookerly-c.ttf
Amazon-Ember-BoldItalic -> Amazon-Ember-d.ttf

.put the files into my font folder on the H2O
.disconnected and turned the H2O off completely (long holding the power button)
.restarting and now everything works as it should work...

sorry for my bad english - hope this helps...

PS:
works on my Glo HD too - files used for testing are .kepub.epub and .epub generated with calibre

I extracted this font from firmware update 5.8.2 (Kindle 8th Gen / and Oasis too) but found the font version 1.000 only.
