I agree that companies don't or aren't able to fix screen issues once a product is released, so waiting a few months until the problems are worked out isn't likely to help. It then becomes a lottery as to whether you will get a device with a good screen. I'm sure there are some number of Oasis devices that are good enough to satisfy most people and I hope Michilt will get one. I went through 4 devices before getting a Voyage I was satisfied with and it is near perfect. I had 2 Oases that had shadows on the right and less contrast than my Voyage so I'm sitting this iteration out and sticking with my Voyage.

What is it about the Oasis that makes people want to buy one when they have a PW3 and/or Voyage? from everything I've read, there's nothing about an Oasis that makes it anything special in comparison to the PW3 or Voyage.

As for me, I'd like to have another main reader in addition to the Voyage. I like the Oasis's ergonomics, and page turn buttons are a must-have for me (they're the main reason I never got a Paperwhite, or a Kobo). I do have two perfectly working basic kindles, but I'm spoiled by the Voyage's screen now and the basics just aren't really satisfying any longer.

The buttons on the Oasis are much easier and more usable than the Voyage. When holding the Oasis my thumb rests between the buttons so a slight push uses the buttons. The Oasis with cover weighs less than the Voyage with Oragmi cover. I do miss the ability to set it on my computer table to read but the one handed ease of the Oasis makes up for that. And I won the screen lottery with a great screen on the first Oasis. |

There's a notable difference between the plastic and glass displays. In that since, the Oasis is a step up from the PW3. Now whether the price can be justified in one's budget, is a personal thing. Personally, I would have preferred to spend my money on a Voyage, if there remained hope of getting one without noticeable gradient, having tried 7 of them.

I just like to get the latest and greatest but unfortunately the latest wasn't the greatest for me and I'm happy to have my Voyage to return to. My Voyage has a much better screen in terms of evenness and contrast than the 2 Oases I had and returned. I liked the size of the Oasis and the beautiful Merlot cover mine had but just couldn't deal with the screen unevenness and cone lights and shadows.

I've had every version of the kindle since the Kindle Keyboard, apart from the non lighted ones since the PW2 came out. I used to desperately want every new kindle but with the Oasis that need has gone. I just don't feel excited about kindles anymore and unless they one day do something drastic I won't ever again.

Even though I have a lovely Voyage screen I just prefer reading on a Kobo. |

My favorite reader at the moment is my Kobo Aura HD. Great ergonomics for holding one handed! (Without case). Last edited by booklover6; 05-15-2016 at 08:43 AM. |

I wait until I can try out a new device in the store, to see if it's right for me. Does anyone know yet , when we can see an Oasis in stores in the U.S. ?

How can you possibly live with only one e-reader?Seriously, the Voyage is a truly enjoyable piece of tech. It is expensive, but I've never regretted buying it. The screen is gorgeous. |
