the Terms and conditions state only one device can be traded in, it goes on to say one per customer though I suspect most BN's wont stop folks from trading in a few devices as long as each device goes toward the purchase of a separate device, and you're willing to go through several individual transactions rather than all in one. That way it'll look like they just had a lot of trade ins from different people rather than a lot from one person.

The first gen Nook is actually a pretty beastly machine and has stood the test of time. The major issues users are facing now are issues with the battery. Even at 50$ you're still getting around 30% of your money back based on the lowest selling price BN had for the HDs. You're getting significantly less for the original Nook. Though for the Simple Touch, NSTG, and Glowlight you're getting substantially more.

O/T, but I was delighted with my first gen Nook, which I got as soon as it came out. I cranked it up recently as I had bought a Nookbook with some store credit and I didn't want to wade through the thread to figure out how to liberate just one more book. Not only did I have a very nice reading experience, I also was pleasantly surprised by how slowly the battery had discharged while idle. However, it's just too big and clunky and has those battery issues to make it a viable device today and despite the original price, its market value today is nil. I think those who are likely upgraders have upgraded long since, so (typically for BN) I don't understand why they aren't discriminating in favor of more recent customers who churn devices than in favor of ones who run an ancient one into the ground.

I'd trade in my HD+ if I got more credit for it, but I'm just not going to hand over that much cash to BN, when I've done so much better trading in devices at BestBuy. I'm sure those with a Nook Samsung tablet feel this even more so.

Keep in mind the Tab 4 is part of the deal and is 149, so 50$ off that price isn't bad. I don't think this deal is meant to draw those who are using HDs since the HD Nooks aren't *that* old, especially in BN's eyes. They were the generation before BN partnered with Samsung, the Tab 4 is the first fruit of that partnership.

It's also arguable that the HD to Tab 4 is, at best, a side-grade. I'm not sure if BN has fixed issues with loading books on an SD card with the Tab 4, but on launch they books would load without covers. This isn't the case with the Nook HD. Both have access to the Playstore. And I believe the HD screen is actually a higher resolution than the Tab 4.

I agree that converting a classic Nook into the 7" Tab 4 for $99 is the maximum use of this promotion. It's what I did the last time they ran it (one of my sisters wanted the Tab 4) and even better, they took a broken Nook at that.

What's the benefit of the BN Samsung tab S2, versus just getting the regular Samsung S2? Other than being able to read free at BN and the $5 credit and free books and magazines ? Is the Microsoft office on both?

Beware...If the Read-in-Store function is important to you. It hasn't worked at both stores in my area for several weeks now, at least, not on any of my Nook devices, nor those in the store. I spoke with both stores and called Nook support to report it. They told me to try 3-5 days later, but still no RIS. I am beginning to wonder if they are doing away with this feature. If so, then I do not see any advantage in getting the Samsung Tab S2 Nook.

You may already know this, but if not: The MS office on Android is a more "limited" version than a full windows office. In Excel for example there are a large number of formula FUNCTIONS that won't work (if the sheet opened contains them it locks the sheet and makes it read only with no editing or changes allowed) along with such things as any data validation causing sheets to be locked. If you're using basic functions you're good. But if you're doing anything more complex it may not work for you.

One of the downside of getting BN -branded Samsung is the additional BN-specific bloat-ware app/content.

BN only adds a Nook App. At least that is all that was added to the Samsung Tab 4. There was no "bloatware."

At one point you also got widgets, the B&N video and audiobook apps, and a B&N store app.

I think you still get widgets, but you can disable them fairly easily. That said if you can get the Galaxy S2 for the same or less from anyone other than B&N you'd be better off. The entire Samsung Nook line does hamstring the device by loading on Nook software and changes. While you can get the same reading experience by getting a device and then downloading the free app.

Right. The only tru difference is you can't read in store if you get the BB version and add the Nook App.
