Just a heads up on the "Jungle Minipack":

When I opened it, I found the type to be very light. I immediately suspected that the color needed to be changed, which I did with calibre. That cleared it up.

Whenever one has a problem like that - a colored font or a font that looks a bit too light - then just go through these steps when using calibre:

1) go to Convert Books
2) go to Look & Feel
3) go to Styling
4) click Colors

And then click OK.

Downpriced to $1.99 (n the U.S. only) today from MysteriousPress.com/Open Road Media:

BORDERLANDS:SHORT FICTIONS by James Carlos Blake, great collection of stories set in the Southwest.

Described as:
"Winner of the Border Regional Library Association Southwest Book Award: A gritty, action-packed collection of short stories from a master of the American West.

Dolores and her mother have not seen Dolores’s daddy for five days. Dolores—whom daddy calls Sugargirl—leaps to greet him when she hears his heavy steps on the front porch. Daddy is drunk, battered, and smells of cheap perfume; his return is cut short when Momma chases him out of the house with a hot iron. A few years later, when Momma is dead and Daddy is serving a thirty-to-life stint in the state penitentiary, Dolores gets a letter addressed to Sugargirl. She is sixteen, on her own, and life will not get easier from here.

This novella and the seven accompanying stories represent the finest short fiction of acclaimed author James Carlos Blake. While the tales span centuries and continents, the characters share a common trait: They are citizens of the borderlands, from whence death is the only escape. Blake expertly captures the complexities of the border area in these raw and honest adventure stories of love and vengeance."

If you like Larry McMurty and really lovely storytelling about the American West, you might want to check out this downpriced title from Greg Matthews. Downpriced for one day only across all U.S. retailers:

HEART OF THE COUNTRY by Greg Matthews

Tracing the epic journey of Joe Cobden, a half-breed hunchback born on the side of a road and raised in the home of a St. Louis doctor, across the unforgiving landscape of the Great Plains, author Greg Matthews exposes the savage truth behind the frontier myth and captures what it was really like to live and die in the Old West.

“A remarkable historical novel….A stunning, mesmerizing performance.” —Newsweek

I don't see a real publisher for 1984 and Animal Farm, which are both under copyright in the US. I wonder if these will be pulled shortly, as I believe happened with 1984 a few years back.
