90% Off Story of Youngest Person (a Girl) to Solo Circumnavigate the Earth. 99 Cents!
90% off of the digital list price of $9.99.
One Girl One Dream. By Laura Dekker. Rated 4.8 stars, from 29 reviews at Amazon at the present moment. Print list price $18.99; digital list price $9.99; Kindle price $0.99. HarperCollins, publisher. 320 pages. https://www.amazon.com/One-Girl-Drea...dp/B00LKTQIDS/. I happen to know that Google Play also has this for 99 cents, also. That being the case, I suspect that all of the usual vendors have the ebook for 99 cents. Book Description The amazing autobiographical account of the youngest ever solo circumnavigation of the Earth. If you want to see the other side of the world, you can do two things: turn the world upside down, or travel there yourself. In 2012, at the age of just 16, Laura Dekker became the youngest sailor ever to single-handedly circumnavigate the globe. In realising her long-held dream, she had not only braved the wild oceans and long weeks of solitude at sea, but also the doubts and sometimes hostile resistance of officials. In this remarkable account of her incredible journey - for the first time in English - Laura describes in her own words what it is like to sail solo around the world, and the determination it takes to do it at such a young age. Exciting, awe-inspiring and inspirational, this is a real-life adventure for readers of all ages. Last edited by GtrsRGr8; 05-12-2016 at 05:27 PM. |

I got an email message (bulk email) from Taylor Pearson, author of The End of Jobs. He explains what happened with the NoiseTrade offer. Thought some of you might be interested in seeing what he wrote.
>Taylor Pearson taylor@taylorpearson.me via s3.acems1.com 1:37 PM (8 hours ago) to me Hey, First, thanks for downloading The End of Jobs from Noisetrade. As you may have noticed, the version you downloaded was an excerpt and not the full book. When I worked with Noisetrade to send out the book, I thought that they often sent out excerpts in lieu of full-length books. Turns out, they typically don't! That was my misunderstanding and something I should have clarified. To apologize and make up for any confusion, I'd like to offer you the full version of The End Of Jobs, plus the audiobook (which normally retails at $19.99 on Audible). Click here to get your free bundle of The End Of Jobs. My apologies and thank you again for your interest, Taylor< |

FREE Exhibition Catalog of Islamic Art, from the Museum of Islamic Art in Qatar. PDF.
Someone wrote in a post saying that he or she enjoyed museum exhibition catalogs. I do, also. Well, I came across this very well done one from the Museum of Islamic Art in Qatar. It was written and published to go along with an exhibition that they had of Mughal and Safavid albums from September 2014 to February of last year.
Those of us in the west are generally unfamiliar with any art but western art. But cultures in the east, including the Mughal (the Mughal Empire was located in modern day India and Afghanistan) and Savavid (in modern day Iran) cultures, have had people of equal artistic genius produce artwork equally as beautiful as that in the west. Title: Building Our Collection: Mughal and Safavid Albums (Catalogue of Exhibition Highlights). Format(s): Pdf. Author(s): Dr. Nur Sobers-Khan. Publisher: Museum of Islamic Art, Qatar. Pages: 35. Ebook Rating/Number of Reviews (Amazon): N/A. Price: $0.00. Lowest Price at (or through Amazon) if available from there: Book Description (from the book): The folios on display in this exhibition were once bound together in albums assembled largely in Iran and India . . . . Albums from the Safavid period in Iran demonstrate the development of painting styles from the constrained formalism of the early period, to the later, more intimate, depictions of beautiful women and youths, reflcting changing artistic tastes and interests at court . . . . In contrast to the charming individual portraits of dandies, beautiful ladies and dervishes produced in Safavid Iran, the portraits of rulers from the Mughal period in India reinforced the grandeur and power of the Mughal emperor through the careful use of symbolic imagery, and emphasise the importance of dynastic legitimacy to the imperial project of the Mughals and Safavids . . . . Comments: I believe this to be a legal free download due to the fact that the publisher, the Museum of Islamic Art, offers it free on numerous webpages on their site (e.g., http://www.mia.org.qa/en/boc/boc-catalogue). URL: http://www.mia.org.qa/en/component/p...catalogue-book (direct link). |

Three FREE Business Books from Hyperink--in Mobi, EPub, and PDF!
If you will set up an account with the publisher Hyperink, and agree to receive email from them, they will give you 3 free ebooks immediately. At least, that was my experience just a few minutes ago. I also inferred, from something that they said, that they would offer free ebooks to me at other times, too.
All that there is to signing up is 1) giving your email address, and 2) giving a password that you would like to use. The 3 books would appeal to the business person. These are the 3, with the price that you would have to pay for the Kindle mobi at Amazon, if it is available there: Transformational Marketing: The Best of Forbes CMO Network. $9.99. Guide to YC (Y Combinator), by Jason Shen. $2.99. Business School for Startups, by Fred Wilson. N/A. I am not sure, yet, that these are the full versions of the book. I did check the first one quickly, and it looked like if it wasn't complete it was very close to it. All three free titles are available in mobi, ePub, and PDF. In fact, I tried in order to see if this would work, and it did--I was able to download all 3 formats of all 3 ebooks. Here's where to go to sign up. |

I ran across the website for Kagero Publishing just a little while ago. They have some very interesting freebies, 15 or so in number, at this webpage.
Kagero seems to be a company that specializes, at least, in publishing items related to the hobby of model building, in particular models of military machines (airplanes, tanks, ships, etc.). Most of the books on the above-referenced webpage will probably be of interest to modelers only. However, at least two of them will have a much broader appeal. Those two are Topshots 12 -- A-10 Thunderbolt II and Top Colors No. 8 Battle of Britain, Part I. The first one is about the modern-day A-10 "Warthog" warplane. The second one is about what the title suggests--the Battle of Britain (the air war above England (and maybe other parts of Great Britain) against Nazi Germany in 1940). The book about the A-10 has a small amount of textual information about the plane, but mostly it has page after page of color photographs of the (real--not model) plane taken from seemingly every conceivable angle of every different area of the plane. The second one has considerably more text than the first one and, instead of photographs, has many beautiful, detailed paintings of aircraft that were involved in the Battle of Britain. With this being only Part I of the title, this book deals exclusively with German airplanes; I assume that there is a Part II and that it deals with the planes of Great Britain. However, if there is, it is probably not free; I'll do some more looking around on Kagero's website, though. One caveat. The publisher is a Polish one. Most of the books of interest to modelers are almost entirely in Polish. However, the two books that I have highlighted are both almost entirely in English. ADDENDUM: You might have assumed this, but in case you didn't . . . . the books are all in PDF. Last edited by GtrsRGr8; 05-14-2016 at 06:40 PM. |

I am really interested in the story. Right now, I don't have time to read the book, though I would much like to. I'd like to have an audiobook of it, but apparently there isn't one (Audible doesn't have it anyway). |

99 Cents--Highly Rated Biography of Sylvia Plath.
Sylvia Plath: A Biography. By Linda Wagner-Martin. Rated 4.3 stars, from 52 reviews at Amazon at the present moment. Print list price N/A; digital list price $3.99; Kindle price now $0.99. Endeavor Press, publisher. 240 pages. https://www.amazon.com/Sylvia-Plath-.../dp/B016A8MCJC.
Book Description It has been just over 50 years since Sylvia Plath committed suicide, and her place in American letters is secure. Today she is widely recognized as one of the outstanding poets of the century. When her Collected Poems was published it won the Pulitzer Prize. Her only published novel, The Bell Jar, has become a modern classic. Because Plath drew so heavily on her own life in both her poetry and her fiction, the outlines of her life are familiar to readers. But, like most writers, Plath changed the facts of her life in her writing. In this biography, the first to draw on unpublished journals and letters recently made available, Linda Wagner-Martin examines the ironies and contradictions of Sylvia Plath's life, as well as her achievements. Everyone who knew Plath described her as talented, attractive, out-going and seemingly self-assured. Yet in her diaries and letters Plath reveals herself racked by insecurities and doubts. An outstanding and popular student, she attempted suicide while she was still in college, and ten years later she was only just beginning to achieve recognition as a writer when she ended her life. Yet she had a remarkable ability to transform her suffering into art: her anger at the collapse of her marriage, for example, became the remarkable poetry of Ariel, most of which she wrote in a single month. Linda Wagner-Martin traces the origins of Plath's lifelong emotional problems to the untimely death of her father and to the complex relationship that Plath and her mother developed. Ironically, Plath would find herself in a situation similar to her mother's when she separated from her husband, poet Ted Hughes, and faced the prospect of trying to launch her writing career while raising two young children. In her determination to be both wife and mother, on the one hand, and teacher and writer on the other, Plath tried simultaneously to fulfill and to fight the conventions that bound women in the 1950s. Throughout her life Plath felt herself pulled in opposing directions. Her genius as a writer lay in her ability to express her complicated emotional life in poetry and fiction that continue to move us today. |

This Book, which Sells for $98.99+ at Amazon, Is FREE as an Open Access PDF!
Yes, the subject matter is a little esoteric, and the work is more than a little scholarly/academic. But some MobileReaders might be interested in Chapter 14, at least, which is about the Hippocratic Oath. You can find out, for example, that "First, do no harm" is not in the Oath, and find out what it really says. As far as I'm aware, all or almost all medical doctors in the United States, at least, give this oath sometime before they enter medical practice (maybe while in medical school, I dunno).
Isn't Open Access great? Title: Oaths and Swearing in Ancient Greece. Format(s): PDF. Author(s): Alan H. Sommerstein; Isabelle C. Torrance. Publisher: De Gruyter. Pages: x + 475. Ebook Rating/Number of Reviews (Amazon): No ratings at Amazon or GoodReads yet. Price: $0.00. Lowest Price at (or through Amazon) if available from there: $98.99 (Hardcover, Used--"Like New"). Book Abstract (from the publisher, via AOpen.org): The oath was an institution of fundamental importance across a wide range of social interactions throughout the ancient Greek world, making a crucial contribution to social stability and harmony; yet there has been no comprehensive, dedicated scholarly study of the subject for over a century. This volume of a two-volume study explores the nature of oaths as Greeks perceived it, the ways in which they were used (and sometimes abused) in Greek life and literature, and their inherent binding power. This title was made Open Access by libraries from around the world through Knowledge Unlatched.--Provided by publisher. Comments: I believe this to be a legal free download based, in part, upon the fact that it is presented as such at AOpen's website.
