New to ebook readers. Help with PW3 and formats
Hey guys. Just got my paperwhite 3 very recently. I have a few questions about formats and calibre.
Right now, I have a few books in both the epub and mobi formats. I know I can use calibre and transfer the mobi files to my kindle via USB. However I notice that I can convert my files to the azw3 format using calibre. Is there any reason I should be doing so as compared to simply using the mobi format? Thank you in advance. |

Convert to AZW3 so you can EDIT IT and make it better (adjust styles). |

Thank you for the response. So since I have both the epub and mobi versions, it would be better to convert the epub to azw3 and transfer that to my kindle pw3? Also, you mentioned editing the azw3 files. Can I directly edit azw3 files that are on my kindle (using calibre) so that I can preview the changes quickly? Or do I need to edit the files that are on my PC and transfer to preview? Thank you.

![]() Edit files ON your kindle NO. You can edit AZW3 (or EPUB) file in Calibre, then send them to your K (by USB. You cannot mail AZW3. Big A's rule) |

You can edit the AZW3 file directly, while it is stored on the Kindle. Just go to the File Browser, open the file with Edit E-Book and make your edits.
This saves you approximately the minute it would've taken to click "Send to Device". ![]() |
