Obviously, YMMV, but that's one of the many reasons the Oasis isn't for me.

I guess I'm lucky, in that my sofa is near enough to an outlet to charge while reading, when needed. I have an extension / outlet strip sitting beside me on the sofa, so I can plug in a hand warmer heating pad when needed. So I could also plug in a kindle charger, if both an Oasis *and* its cover were low.

I suppose the Oasis wouldn't be bad to charge while reading. At least, if you hold it in your right hand, the plug is on top out of your way.

I definitely hoped the case had a separate charging port (as reported by Len at Kindle Chronicles) but the Oasis with case still weighs about the same as the H2O without a case. I still don't understand how he answered that question "yes, the Oasis has a separate charging port" when it clearly doesn't ... UNLESS Amazon was showing a case with built-in charging. Something for the future? I don't know.

Meanwhile, on the other end of the spectrum, I found another Kindle Touch for $10 at the pawn shop and picked up a new OEM olive green case for $4 on eBay. I kind of like the color, though I would imagine it will show dirt more easily than the black ones. Works great, and I've got Text to Speech! (Sorry for getting off subject.)

If I recall he didn't have an excessive amount of time with it before making that statement. It's entirely possible he thought the case did of a port.

Well, I guess it depends on how you define port. It has a connector between the eBook and the case that is electric and has individual pins that can be used for charging.

Except he specifically said "micro USB port."

Yes, the cover has a micro USB port, and the Oasis has one, too.

Whatever the situation, it's absolutely clear that the Oasis covers Amazon is selling now do not have the micro USB ports. It will be interesting to see if they do anything else with cover in the future.

I know. It was on the Internet, so it must have been true!

I wouldn't read much into any Oasis reviews that were posted from the Amazon conference rooms prior to release. Much of those previews seemed like a regurgitation of the presentation made by the Amazon execs to them prior to giving them time with the device. I'm not singling out Len; I find this holds true for almost all the reviewers from then. It's almost as if they were in a daze and weren't adding much from their own end because they weren't given enough time hands on with the Oasis to form confirm-able independent opinions. The best way I can describe it is that looked similar to how hostages read out scripts prepared by their kidnappers at gunpoint. Understandable that mistakes were made in such a hurried situation.
