Are the buttons on the O more on the side like the kindle keyboard or just in front like the voyage.

I have the merlot cover and it too has its share of scuff marks and scratches. Fortunately I don't mind the ancient, lived-in look. It would be better without the Amazon logo but it's not too bad. They could have done it in gold lettering.

One thing that's not been mentioned nearly enough is that the case for the Oasis doesn't fully cover the back. That means that the protection the cover gives is not as good as a cover for any other Kindle.

So I'd have the cover on and then have to put it into a sleeve too if I wanted to carry it in my purse? Or is the back robust enough not to worry about it?

Received mine today (Merlot, 3G). My main concern was not "seeing" the gradient horizontally as reported by others. I do see a very subtle gradient from one side to the other when doing the dark closet and maximum brightness test. I'm not going to bother returning it, as it just seems the gradient will be present on any replacement (as with the Voyage), perhaps due to the flush glass display. The PW3 doesn't have that issue.
I do have shadows from the cones (each one casts a shadow). All of the LEDs appear to be lit. I would prefer the shadows be on the bottom, as your eyes would only notice when nearing the end of the "page", and I've become accustomed to not being distracted by it. But I keep my brightness at max all of the time. The PW3 screen is dull in comparison, so I can see myself lowering the brightness when reading without a light on. I decided to give the Amazon Ember font a chance. Looks great to me using the 2nd smallest font size. Like all of the fonts (except Helvetica), it could be darker. This is nothing new with Kindles. The Oasis that I received, appears to be on par with the Voyage in contrast and whiteness. It is evenly lit. My PW3 now seems to have a murky grayish screen in comparison, even with brightness at max. My only nitpick with the PW3 is it isn't bright enough for me, and that's why I really wanted the Voyage. Clarity of text (300 PPI) seems equal across the PW3, Oasis and Voyage. I'm very pleased with the Merlot cover. It looks much better in person, even the videos don't do justice. It feels really nice and it smells like leather. In summary, the Oasis was worth the money for me. Not so much for the ergonomics or actual page turn buttons, but simply for the Voyage-like display without the extreme gradient presence (to my eyes). Last edited by SCION; 05-09-2016 at 02:31 PM. |

Decided to request a replacement to see if it will have less shadowing. Will be delivered in two days. Given the price, it seems the wise thing to do within the replacement/return period of 30 days.

Note that the "medium sleeve" we looked at before is only taller, not wider. The Oasis is wider than a Voyage. |

My Oasis is the first Kindle to be out of a cover for any length of time. So, thanks to DecalGirl, I've ensured it looks as schweet without the cover and stays protected from dirt, dings and scratches.
![]() ![]() I got the matte finish skin and it went on very easily; it appears to be a premium piece. I could be prejudiced, given I've used DecalGirl on a lot of devices, but I'm really impressed with this skin. There is a cut-out for the battery connector so the connection isn't affected. After cleaning the fingerprints off the Oasis before putting the skin on, I realized how much neater (cleaner?) this will be. The skin is very smooth and silky feeling - makes the Oasis feel even better in my hand. Oh, and with the cover on, it appears the Kindle doesn't "notice" the skin - I've seen no missed connection notice and both the cover and Kindle battery details show up in Settings. I am very pleased, yet again, with DecalGirl. Marilyn P.S. And yes, I'm enjoying the Oasis as much as I did the day I got it, maybe even more. I am SO tickled with the return of real buttons (!). |

Lovely! Thanks for the sharing the photos for the DecalGirl skins especially because I have the Merlot color too. I have used several in the past and have also liked them. I am wondering if the Oasis will feel a little too cold to handle in the winter time and the skin would help with that too. Sometimes the Oasis also feels a little slippery. Now I must go browse the DecalGirl website so that I can spend even more money on my already over-priced premium device! Like I need any more temptations!
