I always have one book on the go on my phone, I refer to it as my phone book, that I read whenever I'm by myself and waiting for something. I tend to make it be a book of a movie I've already seen. That way I'm familiar with the story and even if it takes me weeks between readings I usually don't feel lost when I pick it up again.

I don't like reading on a phone; I'm past reading teeny-tiny fonts with enjoyment. And I have seeded my life with e-ink readers so I don't have to; one lives in my purse, two live on my nightstand, there's an armchair one, some are floaters as the situation may demand.
But just in case, all my tablets and phoney-type thingies have books on them, because it would be terrible indeed to be stranded with nothing to read. Similarly, all the tablet thingummies have an audiobook on them, because you never know. |

I like to read fanfiction, so I usually put fanfiction on my phone and books on my Kobo ereader. If I know I will be waiting somewhere (like the dr's office) I will bring my ereader, but for just everyday waiting (say the line at WalMart) I will read on my phone. They both have their uses

I do read on my phones as I've got a Note 4 and an iPhone 6 but only when I'm out and about, when I know that I'll be doing a lot of waiting I bring my Kobo Glo with me. Once at home I use my Kobo. I do read more pages on my Kobo than other devices though.

I've read books on my 4" phone once or twice, when my Sony Reader was not at hand. It did the job, but it was not enjoyable and after some time my eyes ached so much I had to put it down.

If I'm reading a good book and I'm stuck somewhere (waiting on one of my kids, in the doctor's office etc.) I'll often think, "hey wait minute I can read that book on my phone," then sync up and continue reading. It's like finding a treasure I just happen to have with me. So I read on my phone a lot more than I thought I would. And it's a small smartphone (2011 Motorola Admiral with a 3.1" screen). About the size of an iPhone 4, but with a physical keyboard that makes the screen even smaller (I like the small size and physical keyboard). I get twenty lines on that screen and it's perfectly readable for relatively short periods -- 1/2 hour to 40 minutes. At home it's usually the Kindle Touch and sometimes the Nooks or the Kindle Basic with buttons (the poor Kobos and the Sony kind of get ignored, except for charging).

Here's someone who read the entirety of Proust's magnum opus on a phone and lived to write about it. Heroic or insane?

I don't read on my phone. I tried switching to my tablets for reading, but I always go back to an e-ink reader, unless it's a PDF, then I use the iPad. It's not only that I find it easier on the eyes, but I also value that there are fewer distractions (I.e. I don't check mail and work stuff every few minutes). It helps me focus.

My phone is not my first choice of reading device, but I usually have it in a pinch when I might want to read--on the subway if I didn't bring my purse, in line, while waiting for any number of things. Very easy to sync it up with my kindle or Scribd or other app and keep going where I was before. I consider it a supplemental device but that's not to say I don't occasionally spend an hour or so reading on it.
