I'm dreaming of it ! I bought a kobo to read, not to recode bits of my books (even if i've got the time to do it)

With ‘auto' enabled, the renderer should select preferably soft or hard hyphens when they are present but it can cut whenever it wants according its algorithm (which is the guilty one here), so the error you got.

To summarize, the steps to get correct hyphens on kepubs with this method are :

0. adding kobo_extra.css at the root of the device
1. removing mention of -webkit-hyphens in the book’s css
2. justifying left and right in the book’s css (text-align:justify; )
3. hyphenate this ! book
4. sending the book via KoboTouchExtended plugin with custom css checked and options to add hyphens unchecked.
5. disable justification in the aA menu of the book
6. reading the book cover to cover

I should add that there is no problem with hyphenation in epubs anymore (since 3.16.0). If you find working on your books time-consuming, you could just read epubs
I have to say: this fixed the incorrect dutch hyphenation completely.

Now I just bought an e-book from the kobo store, directly on my Glo HD and because I am not able to process it like above, it is full of hyphenation errors.

Please Kobo, fix Dutch hyphenation, because as proved above, it can be fixed!

Hi ! Yup. You have to remove the drm first, and process the book as usual. Go have a look on apprenticealf’s blog for the procedure (how to download a book bought on the kobo store on your computer, etc.)

Regards,

I thought I remembered I added it to koreader a while ago as Dutch.pattern. Yep, see here. So the file is already in the koreader/data/hyph directory in your installation. You can select it via the menu while reading a book.

Open an epub. Press the middle of the top of the screen. Tap the document icon for the second tab. Tap "hyphenation". Tap "Dutch". If you have set the language to Dutch, then the menu item "hyphenation" is called "Woordafbreking."

If you open a pdf-file with scanned pages, you won't find this option. I don't think that the option is available for pdf's with text only.

(Epubs and html-files and such are rendered with the coolreader engine (cre) and always have this option. pdf's and dvju-files are rendered with mu-pdf. I think those text files are pre-formatted in appearance. So there is no hyphenation done by mu-pdf. All hyphens are already in the file.)

No idea what you're doing here. When koreader's interface language is set to "Dutch", the menu item is translated as "Woordafbreking". The choices in the hyphenation submenu remain the untranslated. If you get an empty list after changing the interface language, that would be a new issue. This doesn't happen with my Kobo Aura H2O, though, so I think that I just don't get what you mean.

You don't have to copy anything to anywhere. The file "Dutch.pattern" is already present in the "koreader/data/hyph" folder. You don't have to do anything in Kobolauncher's Coolreader. That is a separate program that uses the same engine for rendering a.o. epub-pages as koreader.

When hyphenation was severely bothering me in the past, the magic thing would be to just turn it off: select "None" in the hyphenation submenu. It is not that we have to be as efficient using screen area as we would be with using printed page.

It never hurts to start out from a known point.

Just delete the koreader folder in .adds/ and extract the koreader folder from the latest release zip-file for kobo. At this 7th of May the latest is here.

First deleting makes sure no older configuration files remain. However, you will have to add your dictionaries and Tesseract trained-files again to the data directories.

Power off. Keep light pressed down, while sliding the power button. This will also wipe the entire onboard partition. So make sure to backup ebooks and whatever to your PC.
