I would've bought it at $150.

Well, since I bought the Oasis at $300, then certainly, yes, I would buy it at $150

But seriously, it really depends on what you're looking for and how much you can afford it.

If you like the form-factor, ergonomics, page-turn buttons, light weight, "new toy" factor, etc., AND you can afford to spend $150 for this, then yes, I'd say go for it.

If your biggest concern is screen quality, then it's kind of luck-of-the-draw and personal preference. My Oasis has more even color than my Voyage, but my Voyage has sharper, darker text. Also, the lighting on my Oasis is yellow-white, whereas my Voyage screen is blue-gray-white shifting to pink.

From what I'm reading it sounds like all or most Oasises run yellow-white rather than blue-white. Is there anyone who has seen an Oasis with blue-white lighting? Just wondering how consistent this yellow-white color temperature is. Thanks!

On mine it depends on the brightness setting. At 10 it is a definite yellow. Around 15 or above mine is a definite blue. I have beginning cataracts so I read at 16-18 so mine is blue most of the time.

Yeah, the color temperature is a lot closer to midday on a cloudy day, than the warm white LEDs I use in my lamps. Maybe Amazon is trying to keep us alert and reading more ... buying a lot more books :-) Or maybe it´s just to compensate for the gray e-ink to make it paperwhite in most lighting conditions.

Sorry about that. Thanks for the heads up. It's getting harder to list all of the readers I've used through the years.

Thanks Shinytop and tovare! Too bad there isn't a way to select the color hue you prefer. But helpful to know blue-white Oasises are out there.

That is what happened to me. I was going to let both run low, but it bugs you every few minutes because the battery is low to plug it in. Since you can't just charge the cover your options are to take the cover off and read the Oasis that way (the low battery warnings stop once the cover is off), or you can charge the Oasis with the cover on.

I finally just plugged it in when I left the house and it was fully charged again when I came back an hour later.

I managed to empty the cover in 3 days.

2 months battery life

Glad to hear it charges up quite quickly.

"2 months" vs "3 days" is how *all* of the kindles are, so this is no different (not that you said it was). They pick some "per day reading rate" and then standardize the time measurements to that. But since people likely to spend $290+ on an ereader are most likely to be the avid readers ..... 30 minutes winds up being a ridiculous comparison time frame! I only get 3-4 days of "full weekend days" reading on my Voyage too. Which is to say ... I do laundry, I eat, I walk the dog, but there are a lot of hours of reading on those days. Sounds like the Oasis is not noticeably different -- though they claim an hour or two more (spread out over their silly 30-minutes a day rate).

30 minutes a day is about right for me :-)

I think amazon has the insight and data to make an educated guess that applies to the majority of kindle customers.

..... And that makes them look the best. Regardless of whether it matches the most customers or not!

edit in: Have we ever done a poll on how many hours per day people read? Although people who care enough to be HERE on MR, may have a higher average reading time than the general populace, anyway.

I don't think there's any question of "may have". Definitely do have! Most people do not read books at all. Ever.

I´ve heard that shocking info about the US before, fortunately it´s incorrect :-)

The average leisure-time reading is 19 minutes a day according to a 2014 survey.

That's an average. A relatively small percentage of people reading two to four hours a day can make up for a whole lot of people not reading at all.
