This looks like a really good book. First, it's got a 4.8 stars rating at Amazon, from 31 reviews. Second, it's got a good number of pages, 238, especially to be a self pub as it is. Third, the inside particularly, is very attractive, again especially for it to be a self pub. The book is loaded with colorful photos and graphics which not only sometimes lend visual interest, but also are many times highly informative.

I love coffee. But I've got to find some way to curb the $2.50/day expense of my frappuccino addiction. Hopefully, there'll be a recipe or two in this book so that I can start making them for myself.
Here Gr8 one.
I didn't know if you liked caramel or mocha.

Enjoying this Highly Rated Cookbook of Vintage Items Is a Real Piece of Cake.

The current price of $1.99 is an 85% markdown from the digital list price.

Maybe this cookbook will have another recipe for old-fashioned caramel cake--my fave--for me to try out. That'd be great. Yum.

There are three free recipes, from the book, on the book's webpage at Amazon.

Vintage Cakes: Timeless Recipes for Cupcakes, Flips, Rolls, Layer, Angel, Bundt, Chiffon, and Icebox Cakes for Today's Sweet Tooth. By Julie Richardson. Rated 4.4 stars, from 170 reviews, at Amazon at the present moment. Print list price $24.00; digital list price $12.99; Kindle price now $1.99. Ten Speed Press, publisher. 176 pages. https://www.amazon.com/Vintage-Cakes.../dp/B008C80U1Q.

Book Description
A charming collection of updated recipes for both classic and forgotten cakes, from a timeless yellow birthday cake with chocolate buttercream frosting, to the new holiday standard, Gingerbread Icebox Cake with Mascarpone Mousse, written by a master baker and coauthor of Rustic Fruit Desserts.

Make every occasion—the annual bake sale, a birthday party, or even a simple Sunday supper—a celebration with this charming collection of more than 50 remastered classics.

Each recipe in
Vintage Cakes is a confectionary stroll down memory lane. After sifting through her treasure trove of cookbooks and recipe cards, master baker and author Julie Richardson selected the most inventive, surprising, and just plain delicious cakes she could find. The result is a delightful and delectable time capsule of American baking, with recipes spanning a century.

Each cake has been expertly tested and retooled using the best ingredients and most up-to-date techniques. With precise and careful guidance, Richardson guides home bakers—whether total beginners or seasoned cooks—toward picture-perfect meringues, extra-creamy frostings, and lighter-than-air chiffons.

A few of the dreamy cakes that await: a chocolatey Texas Sheet Cake as large and abundant as its namesake state, the boozy Not for Children Gingerbread Bundt cake, and the sublime Lovelight Chocolate Chiffon Cake with Chocolate Whipped Cream. With recipes to make Betty Crocker proud, these nostalgic and foolproof sweets rekindle our love affair with cakes.

Very Highly Rated Follow-Up to Martha Hall Foose's Screen Doors & Sweet Tea. $1.99!

That's a sweet 88% off of the digital list price.

I've about gone broke buying cookbooks. Anytime I run across one now, I try to find some reason not to buy it. I couldn't come up with a reason for this one. Not with me liking highly rated books, huge bargains, and Southern food as I do.

Even if you don't buy the book, be sure to check out the free recipe on the webpage at Amazon for the book, if you like onions. There's a scrumptious-looking free recipe for Egyptian Walking Onions. (I don't know if the recipe is in the book, all that it says in the title of the recipe is "featured recipe").

A Southerly Course: Recipes and Stories from Close to Home. By Martha Hall Foose. Rated 4.7 stars, from 21 reviews at Amazon at the present moment. Print list price N/A; digital list price $17.99; Kindle price now $1.99. Clarkson Potter, publisher. 256 pages. https://www.amazon.com/Southerly-Cou.../dp/B004S3H14I.

Book Description
In the highly anticipated follow-up to her bestselling Screen Doors & Sweet Tea, Martha Hall Foose shares recipes and stories that are even closer to her home and heart.

A Southerly Course delves deep into Mississippi Delta flavors and foodways, where Martha finds inspiration in local ingredients—from figs and sweet potatoes to crawfish and venison. In her signature style, she pairs each recipe with an anecdote or words of advice, her memorable tales about each dish lingering long after the last bite has been polished off.

Martha’s beloved Southern cuisine is a fresh take on homey favorites fiercely protected by the locals, including Skillet Fried Corn, Sweet Pickle Braised Pork Shoulder, and Blackberry Jelly Roll. Dishes such as Sweet-and-Sour Salsify and Peanut Chicken, on the other hand, reflect the influence other cuisines have had on Southern cooking. Martha’s lifelong bond with Mississippi is most apparent when she introduces her friends and family; she dedicates Burgundy Duck to a fiery group of women duck hunters called the Swamp Witches, while her cousin’s new wife inspires Korean-style Grilled Green Onions. And in recalling her former neighbor, the famed author Eudora Welty, she reveals the secret to a perfect Custard Pie.

With more than 100 recipes and beautiful color photographs, this book is a wonderful, personal look into the South that Martha loves. Gather around her table in A Southerly Course for unforgettable food and vivid stories, both hallmarks in a rich Southern tradition.

Oh, I have lots of Southern cookbooks among all of the other ones that I have. There are more recipes in them than I could use if I cooked a different one three times a day for the rest of my life. The problem is, when I see one that I don't have . . . .

But I'll keep your cookbooks in mind. I might ask if sometime you would check to see if you have one for a particular dish.

Now, are these real Southern cookbooks? South Texas, or anywhere else in Texas for that matter, doesn't count.

Texans don't eat those things? There are so many misconceptions about Texas and Texans . . . .

I don't recall ever having eaten nopalitas, but I'm sure that I would like them if they're Mexican.

My first taste of real Mexican food was in Texas--the first time that I was in Texas, probably 1981, but maybe 1982. Was in the Houston area visiting friends. One of the friends took me to a real Mexican restaurant. Prior to that, all that I knew was just Americanized (and I didn't realize it) stuff. The real Mexican was very different from anything that I had tasted before. I really liked it. Can't say that I've had any real Mexican food since, unfortunately.

Even the Mexican food varies from place to place.
