after Kindle firmware update, all my books are gone!

Hello all,

I'm desperate for help. I have the cheapest kindle, the $60, 3rd gen I believe, and today it automatically updated. I had on it a bunch of books from gutenberg.org.

It simply won't recognise them. I have removed it all, and added it again with Calibre. Nothing, it`s like their not on the device, but in Calibre, I can see them there.

Anyone has any idea what`s going on and how to fix it?

Did you reboot the K3?
Did you send the correct format (Mobi, possibly AZW3)
Do you have a (collections) filter in place.

Are the FILES now in the correct location after the update? (rules may have changed)

I just had the same happen to me, but with only 2 books and in reverse.
Calibre cannot see or unlock the books I just bought.

I had some other books changed by Kobo, and since I had them backed up in another Calibre file, they are still intact in the right format. I think most of my books from other places weren't bothered as I had put them all on the card and not into device memory. I did it via the computer. Kobo is not happy, apparently as it says IT will manage the card.

The books that got changed were from the Kobo Desktop library. When it updated the desktop and synced the device, most of the books on the desktop library got changed.

Calibre cannot open nor un-drm it with Obok.

(It is already backed up as an EPUB elsewhere, but since I bought it last year, I don't feel Kobo had any right to mess with a prior purchased product without informing me of any new changes.)

On the library screen, do you have the selectors at the top of the page set to "Downloaded" and "All Items", respectively. I know this is blindingly obvious, but people have been known to overlook what's staring them in the face!

The 3rd gen Kindle is also known as the Kindle Keyboard (sold starting in 2010).

Assuming you mean cheapest current Kindle that would be the 7th gen Kindle, sometimes called the Touch2 or Touch Basic.

I'm not sure if it got a similar update to what the Paperwhite did a while back, but if it did then switching the selectors on the home screen to Downloaded and All Items should help IIRC. If not then I'm not sure.
