The Vent and Rant Thread

Insomnia.

It first cropped up about two years ago. I was able to get it under control pretty easily -- in my case, just making sure I got direct sunlight early in the day effectively "reset my sleep cycle." So, instead of having some tea and reading by the living room lamp I went out onto the back deck and read in the sun. In just 3 or 4 days I was getting to sleep pretty quickly after getting to bed.

But, May is going to be a very busy, stressful month, and we haven't had much sun for a week ...

I have a "therapy light" that's intended to help folks with SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) and it helps a bit, but it's not nearly as effective on a regular basis.

Maybe I'll get a nap this afternoon.

Am I mis-remembering or is there a locked politics forum here? I seem to remember that there was but I never joined it. Anyway, I kind of feel the need to vent in that direction...

There is, and Wetdogeared's post after yours gives pointers.

The key to remember is that politics and religion are emotional topics, and commentary can get heated. By opting in you agree you are aware of that and prepared to deal with it.

I tend to avoid such topics. I can deal with heated discussion. The problem is that the topics tend to be Religious Arguments(tm). The underlying attitudes and beliefs are gut level, and not normally subject to rational discussion. I don't normally expect anything I say to change the mind of another party in such cases, and don't waste time trying. I may be curious about precisely what someone else believes, and why they want to believe it, but I don't expect to alter their belief.

(Watching the current three ring circus, (complete with lots of clowns) that is the current Presidential primaries, my "point and laugh" reflex gets constant stimulus from both parties. Since I do have other things to do besides pointing and laughing, I pay as little attention as possible to the show.)

Me too. It's a real good paying job. He works for the State working with teenage boys who have made some serious mistakes. They are going through rehabilitation. In other states it would be called a maximum security Juvenile Detention center but here in Missouri it's more like a rehabilitation camp thanks to the Missouri Model.

None of it is worth anything. it's just a bunch of junk like mementos, souvenirs and well junk.

I don't see being able to cancel it entirely but we could downgrade. We live in a tiny apartment so we have to rotate things in and out like seasonal clothing. No closets or dresser room. I keep two plastic bins for clothing. Space is very limited.

Things are definitely looking up. He will get paid on the 15th which will be his 4th week there. I'm counting the days to payday.

I have almost broke my hands a few times from sitting on them.

Now as to your tongue, it will close back over in about 3 days. In the meantime, Sprite is ok and won't irritate it.

Very good Was that also the direction of his bachelor, helping youths rehabilitate? In that case, good job; literally

That's indeed really small. I've lived (and live) small, but not THAT small. The reason I live in a small apartment is mainly because I live alone and am never home except in the evening hours and on Sunday. A big place would only be a burden.

Very good Arrange all finances ASAP, and then save for some time. I did, after I was in a similar position as you some years back.

Ugh! Everyone is freaking out right now. My nephew (6) found a discarded needle in the park, picked it up to take to the trash, and got stuck! It happened so quick, my brother wasn't able to stop it. This needle was right.by the kids' play area!

It's a dangerous and scary situation. My kids' first impulse would have been to pick it up and bring it to me, as well.
