FREE -- Autobiography of Ben Franklin -- B Franklin/ Greg Houser --> 6.5 hrs/ R-4.5 --> memoir

Quote:
The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin

The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin is a personal account of the life of the famous American statesman, businessman, philosopher, inventor and scientist. It is widely acclaimed as one of the greatest portraits of an American historical figure, and is all the more compelling due to the fact that it was written by the man himself. Here you will listen to stories of Franklin's early poverty, his rise to wealth through incomparable industry, and the direct stories of his relations, travels, and adventures. The story is not only that of one of the most famous men in American history; it is a tale of colonial life in a time just before the revolution, where men like Franklin were already defining what would eventually become the American character. This recording is narrated by Greg Houser.

Amazon has updated their Whispersync for Voice freebie amazingly early this month. It's a repeat freebie, but the version is not a repeat (and an unusually recent release). If you're interested in getting "Pride & Prejudice" by Jane Austen, this time read by Rosamund Pike, you can get it for free. Don't forget, get the Kindle version first (here), then get the Audible version (here). The usual disclaimer applies - it's supposed to be good for the whole month but Amazon's calendar seems to be about as predictable as this year's U.S. presidential primaries so far. If you're interested don't delay.

Enjoy!

Thanks for posting - I'll add it to the OP

That gives me 5 different narrators for this book - 4 from Audible and 1 from Downpour.

LOL was also early posting their monthly freebie. They usually post it around the 4th or 5th. The only monthly freebie consistently on time is from ChristianAudio.

"With a bolt of lightning on my kicks... The court is SIZZLING. My sweat is DRIZZLING. Stop all that quivering. Cuz tonight I'm delivering," announces dreadlocked 12-year old Josh Bell. He and his twin brother, Jordan, are awesome on the court. But Josh has more than basketball in his blood. He's got mad beats, too, that tell his family's story in verse in this fast and furious middle grade novel of family and brotherhood from Kwame Alexander.

$21.49 -- The Last Kingdom -- Bernard Cornwell/ Jonathan Keeble --> 13.5 hrs/ R-4.7 --> historical

Quote:
The Last Kingdom -- Saxon Tales (book 1 of 10)

Whispersync: the Audible book is $12.99, if you own or borrow the Kindle ebook ($6.99)

This is the exciting - yet little known - story of the making of England in the ninth and 10th centuries, the years in which King Alfred, his son and grandson defeated the Danish Vikings who had invaded and occupied three of England's four kingdoms.

The story is seen through the eyes of Uhtred, a dispossessed nobleman, who is captured as a child by the Danes and then raised by them so that, by the time the Northmen begin their assault on Wessex, Alfred's kingdom and the last territory in English hands, Uhtred almost thinks of himself as a Dane. He certainly has no love for Alfred, whom he considers a pious weakling and no match for Viking savagery, yet when Alfred unexpectedly defeats the Danes and the Danes themselves turn on Uhtred, he has to decide which side he is on. By now he is a young man, in love, trained to fight and ready to take his place in the dreaded shield wall. Above all, though, he wishes to recover his father's land, the magical fort of Bebbanburg by the wild northern sea.

This thrilling adventure - based on existing records of Bernard Cornwell's ancestors, depicts a time when law and order were ripped violently apart by a pagan assault on Christian England, an assault that came very close to destroying England altogether. This is the exciting - yet little known - story of the making of England in the ninth and 10th centuries, the years in which King Alfred, his son and grandson defeated the Danish Vikings who had invaded and occupied three of England's four kingdoms.

$1.99 -- The Red Parts -- Maggie Nelson/ Cassandra Campbell --> 5.5 hrs/ R-4.0 --> memoir

Quote:
The Red Parts: Autobiography of a Trial

Whispersync: the Audible book is $3.99, if you own or borrow the Kindle ebook ($9.99)

A chilling genre-busting memoir by a major American essayist

Late in 2004, Maggie Nelson was looking forward to the publication of her book, Jane: A Murder, a narrative in verse about the life and death of her aunt, who had been murdered 35 years before. The case remained unsolved, but Jane was assumed to have been the victim of an infamous serial killer in Michigan in 1969.

Then, one November afternoon, Nelson received a call from her mother, who announced that the case had been reopened; a new suspect would be arrested and tried on the basis of a DNA match. Over the months that followed, Nelson found herself attending the trial with her mother and reflecting anew on the aura of dread and fear that hung over her family and childhood - an aura that derived not only from the terrible facts of her aunt's murder but also from her own complicated journey through sisterhood, daughterhood, and girlhood.

The Red Parts is a memoir, an account of a trial, and a provocative essay that interrogates the American obsession with violence and missing white women and that scrupulously explores the nature of grief, justice, and empathy.

$4.95 -- One Hundred Years of Solitude -- Gabriel Márquez/ J Lee --> 14.0 hrs/ R-3.9 --> world lit

Quote:
Whispersync: no deals at this time

One of the twentieth century’s enduring works, One Hundred Years of Solitude is a widely beloved and acclaimed novel known throughout the world and the ultimate achievement in a Nobel Prize–winning career.

The novel tells the story of the rise and fall of the mythical town of Macondo through the history of the Buendía family. Rich and brilliant, it is a chronicle of life, death, and the tragicomedy of humankind. In the beautiful, ridiculous, and tawdry story of the Buendía family, one sees all of humanity, just as in the history, myths, growth, and decay of Macondo, one sees all of Latin America.

Love and lust, war and revolution, riches and poverty, youth and senility, the variety of life, the endlessness of death, the search for peace and truth—these universal themes dominate the novel. Alternately reverential and comical, One Hundred Years of Solitude weaves the political, personal, and spiritual to bring a new consciousness to storytelling. Translated into dozens of languages, this stunning work is no less than an account of the history of the human race.

Don't know about the translation (I read it in Spanish), but this novel is pure magic.

Audible Daily Deal -- exp 04 May @ 11:59pm ET

$2.95 -- Spooky Action at a Distance -- G Musser/ W Hughes --> 8.7 hrs/ R-4.2 --> astronomy

Quote:
Spooky Action at a Distance: The Phenomenon That Reimagines Space and Time--and What It Means for Black Holes, the Big Bang, and Theories of Everything

Whispersync: the Audible book is $2.95, if you own or borrow the Kindle ebook ($12.99)

What is space? It isn't a question that most of us normally stop to ask. Space is the venue of physics; it's where things exist, where they move and take shape. Yet over the past few decades, physicists have discovered a phenomenon that operates outside the confines of space and time. The phenomenon - the ability of one particle to affect another instantly across the vastness of space - appears to be almost magical. Einstein grappled with this oddity and couldn't quite resolve it, describing it as "spooky action at a distance". But this strange occurrence has direct connections to black holes, particle collisions, and even the workings of gravity. If space isn't what we thought it was, then what is it?

In Spooky Action at a Distance, George Musser sets out to answer that question, offering a provocative exploration of nonlocality and a celebration of the scientists who are trying to understand it. Musser guides us on an epic journey of scientific discovery into the lives of experimental physicists observing particles acting in tandem, astronomers discovering galaxies that look statistically identical, and cosmologists hoping to unravel the paradoxes surrounding the big bang. Their conclusions challenge our understanding not only of space and time but of the origins of the universe - and their insights are spurring profound technological innovation and suggesting a new grand unified theory of physics.

$4.99 -- Missing You -- Harlan Coben/ January LaVoy --> 11.8 hrs/ R-4.1 --> thriller

Quote:
Whispersync: the Audible book is $4.49, if you own or borrow the Kindle ebook ($9.99)

From #1 New York Times bestselling author Harlan Coben, a heart-pounding thriller about the ties we have to our past…and the lies that bind us together

It's a profile, like all the others on the online dating site. But as NYPD detective Kat Donovan focuses on the accompanying picture, she feels her whole world explode as emotions she's ignored for decades come crashing down on her. Staring back at her is her ex-fiancé, Jeff, the man who shattered her heart—and whom she hasn't seen in eighteen years.

Kat feels a spark, wondering if this might be the moment when past tragedies recede and a new world opens up to her. But when she reaches out to the man in the profile, her reawakened hope quickly darkens into suspicion and then terror as an unspeakable conspiracy comes to light in which monsters prey upon the most vulnerable.

As the body count mounts and Kat's hope for a second chance with Jeff grows more and more elusive, she is consumed by an investigation that challenges her feelings about everyone she's ever loved—her former fiancé, her mother, and even her father, whose cruel murder so long ago has never been fully explained. With lives on the line, including her own, Kat must venture deeper into the darkness than she ever has before and discover if she has the strength to survive what she finds there.

Whispersync: the Audible book is $1.99, if you own or borrow the Kindle ebook (free)

As a child, dog-loving Brenna Fallon naively invokes an ancient Celtic deity to save her beloved hound - and inadvertently anchors the new-found power at a spring on her family's farm.

She doesn't know she's also left an opening for a far more malevolent force.

Years later, thanks to the actions of several angry young men, Brenna discovers the terrible potential of that gateway. With a devastating plague unfolding abruptly around her, she must depend on her wits, a stranger she doesn't trust, and a mysterious stray dog who becomes more than just a faithful companion as she struggles to drive back the threat of a modern Black Death.

Welded by a desperate sacrifice, woman, man, and dog face the feral darkness together.
