New 13.3" Onyx Boox. Rumours, prototype specs, first pictures

I asked the store about the shipping timing (I ordered one yesterday in the end) and this is their reply:

Hello,
the first batch of Onyx Boox Max is already on the way and shall arrive as expected in our warehouse tomorrow (Friday 29th of April).However It is already completely sold out and therefore the product is on pre-order again. The next batch is expected in 3-4 weeks.

Thanks for your information. I pre-ordered more or less the moment it was available. Then it could arrive on Monday.

I doubt it will arrive to you on Monday. They've received the devices today at the store, they'll probably start sending them on Monday, and it will arrive depending on the UPS speed.

We'll see. Maybe I will report on it after it has arrived.

After thinking a bit more, I think that for 2016 it's not acceptable to have even less dpi than a device from 2008 (irex dr1000s), I'll wait to a true hd version with dual touch and light even if takes 2 years more.

You're extremely unlikely to see a frontlit 13.3" screen. It's just too big for a light diffuser.

I noticed that PDF page rendering was much slower on my 8" PocketBook Inkpad than on my 6" PocketBook Touch Lux. The Inkpad has more RAM and a comparable CPU, so I deduced that it came down to the number of pixels that had to be calculated in each case. So, going to an even higher number of pixels may degrade performance even further. A lot more has to be done that just slapping a bigger screen into existing devices (faster CPUs, more memory, bigger battery, thicker light layer,...).

That Irex was neat, ahead of its time. I used that everyday until it died.

Great for note taking/pdf reading.

I want to see one of these things used as a note taker before i splurge. Wacom or digitizer screen is great and all, but is there a decent note taking app we can use with it? The company SHOULD make one, it would really help to sell the device. I see they have something, but does it include notebook paper background?

Looks very promising. And NEW, I haven't seen it before.

Might help me make the investment.

Lastly, I am disappointed in the processor they use for this thing. E-ink can run a LOT smoother with the right tech. The days of pressing the screen multiple times are still among us for some of these devices. Seems lame and outdated.

I'd even go one step further, unless it can run OneNote I'm not interested. I need to keep ask my notes organized in one place over several platforms.

I agree. I still haven't even found a stylus that works with the i86. The one that another poster suggested didn't work on mine.

Hi Booxtor, is the above statement still up-to-date: can we expect some sort of plus version of the Max with mx7 & dual touch around Oct/November 2016 (May + 6 months)? I know its hard to predict and you don't want to be giving us false promises, but what do is your best guess as of right now?

I'm not Booxter but as far as I know he has stated that it mainly depends on the sales of the Onyx Boox Max if there will be a successor. The Onyx Boox Max is a test balloon to find out if 13.3 inch e-ink devices will generate enough profit to invest more in the 13.3 inch ereader line.
