My Kindle Oasis Has Arrived

I had it imported in a complicated way ... It was well worth the price at the time.

Of course, had there been an alternative reader with comparable screen for 20% of the price, I would have bought an e-ink reader much sooner ;-)

So many people seem to be upset at the price of the Oasis-I am just glad that we have another choice among e-readers. I am glad that Amazon did not choose to limit Kindles to one or two models. If 289.99 for the Oasis is too expensive there are three other models to choose from.

I choose to buy it and am already quite satisfied. It has improved my reading experience.

My Oasis was shipped from Amazon.de on the 27th - but it's stuck in the Hamburg mail center now, probably because of the holiday weekend.

To keep me busy, I dug out my old Kindle2 and got that set up (for TTS in the car). It still has amazing battery life. But Voyage is the one to read on, at least until Oasis arrives. I discovered that I really do like the physical buttons though. Hoping the Oasis buttons will be "just right" in sensitivity

I don't see any unevenness (and I did try hard to get window glare off before I snapped the pic).

I clearly see different coloring on the left than I do on the right. It's shifting from one coloring to the other.

That is because it's not a KFX format eBook. You only get kerning, ligatures and hyphenation if the eBook is in KFX format.

If you want a Reader that displays kerning, ligatures, and hiphenation, all the time, then a Kindle is not for you.

I haven't received mine yet, but the side by side comparisons of the screen color along with the physical buttons was what made me decide on the Oasis. I hadn't thought of not seeing the hepatic buttons on the Voyage at night but I could see that bothering me.

As far as price, once I got the cover I wanted (the premium one), the price on the Voyage would have been right up there with the Oasis, so it really was not enough difference to matter.

For people who want an Oasis, but need help with the cost there are options. Amazon has a payment plan without interest over 4 months (I think 4 months). If you buy through Best Buy there is an option to pay with Pay Pal and they have Pay Pal Credit which lets you pay over something like 6 months without interest. It still costs the same, but makes it a little easier to manage that way.

We are going to have to decide that there's a difference in pictures versus real life - and between different eyes. 'Cause, try as I might, I don't see a clear distinction in the picture, and I really don't see it when I'm actually looking at the Oasis' screen.

To me and for me - it's perfect.

Best buy recently offered a no interest for 15 months Visa or store card.

Or since the earliest shipping is now June, just put some money back every payday until you can afford to pay cash. By then, they should be in stock.

If you go to the voyage page on the right side under accessories it lists both a leather case and a premium leather case. If you choose premium leather then the voyage is within five dollars of the Oasis.

I ended up just getting the Oasis with the cover since the price would be essentially the same.

Although I did just see that Best Buy still has the Voyage on sale for 179.99.
Amazon has it for 199.99. Both with special offers because that is the only way Best Buy has them. It would still be 264.98 for the Voyage at BB and the premium leather case on Amazon (84.99).

Now Best Buy is sold out so that doesn't help anyone either. I don't have their store card so I didn't know that their terms were. I just have heard advertising for Pay Pal credit every time I log into Pay Pal so I knew what that one was from logging into it yesterday when I was buying something for my son.

I was just trying to let people know there are options.

Maybe they will get more stock in sooner. That was what the customer service person from Amazon seemed to expect when I was talking to them about the delay in shipment when I had my order in with them before I canceled it. She thought if I kept my order it would ship much sooner than August. I just canceled it because I wasn't going to pay that much and then wait 3 months for it. At that point I re-ordered a black one which would have arrived on May 10th. Then I saw on this forum that Best Buy had them and I ordered the Walnut one from them and canceled my other order from Amazon.

This has been much more irritating an experience than any other kindle I've bought. Even the first gen kindle was much smoother than this one.

I used my store card with BB. They offered 6 months with no interest. I have bought numerous products from BB. All have been interest free. I am too old to pay the interest rate they charge. I can buy with lower rate cards but interest free works.
