Unless you read while walking or on the bus, it is really easy to never have to hold your ereader.

And I am one of those people, yes.

I am in my late thirties, and already the bones in my left hand tend to pop out if I am not careful. (It's hereditary.)

Yes, I know that. But sometimes the real-life experience is different, even if the technical details are identical.

By the way, I noticed a customer complaining on Amazon that his Oasis has less contrast than his Paperwhite. That's interesting because no one has expressed a similar opinion so far.

Hey, there's also those of us who just never stop reading, even when doing other stuff -- and now we can even turn pages without wasting that other hand! It's almost like growing an extra arm.

Since I most often read while sitting down, I am confused at that. What am I suppose to do with it. Unless there is a floating option in the settings.

Can't put it on the lap as my neck would kill me having to look down like that for more than a few minutes.

So yeah, holding it in one hand without strain will be great. For me its not so much that the Voyage is heavy, its not. Its that the weight is distributed evenly so by me pressing the buttons and holding on to the device at the same time, something has to give. It tends to slip out of my hand. Its side heavy then. The haptics are not in a natural spot. I can't even attempt the touch screen page changing while holding in one hand.

Putting the weight into the palm its pretty genius I think. And the actual buttons.

I always read while sitting or lying down, and use a book holder. If I am sitting upright, I place it on a raised surface (table/desk). If reclined, on my lap. Pillows can do the same thing.

Kobo Aura H2O
Pocketbook Inkpad
Kindle Voyage

All three are uniquely wonderful in their own way. But the Oasis? It feels like a cut-down Paperwhite.
Couldn't disagree with this more. I've owned most of the Kindles since the first version. My main reader (I read a lot!) since it came out has been a Voyage. While the haptic feedback "buttons" were OK... The physical buttons on the Oasis are awesome (sometimes my finger would slip from the button area on my Voyage and turn the page backward) and the balance of the battery in your hand instead of spread out across the reader are fantastic. The Oasis is WAY out in front of the Voyage in my opinion. Definitely the best eReader ever.

I have a similar type holder, but cannot use it to read while sitting on the sofa. Its just too low and my neck hurts looking down that far. Just not the right angle for me. I also need the right distance for my bifocals and its not close enough down on my lap.
I have that holder on my desk so when I sometimes read while waiting for something working on the computer, I read there. Since I wear computer glasses the distance is then fine. But on my sofa? I have to hold it. Its where I read the most, while others watch TV.

I also constantly move when I read, my legs this way, that way, my arm moves, adjusting my body. I'd top that holder of every time. I have to hold a comfy distance from my eyes and maybe have my elbow on an arm, if there is one.

Even in bed I have to hold it as again, my neck would kill me if I didn't hold it high enough.

You will laugh but the best thing that works for me is one of the neck pillows as a kindle prop ... I have used it for different kindles and currently for my galaxy tab (I gave my older kindles to my mom - she needed the 1st gen kindle so she could listen to books in the car and she uses my "new" one to read at home once she became an addict - thus my need for an Oasis). I haven't tried it for a Voyage since I skipped that one, but if you have a half circle neck pillow laying around you might try it.
I put it on the arm of the couch or on the pillows of the couch depending on where I'm sitting and it's been the best fit for me so far.
I have bifocals or a mix of a reading and a distance contact lens.

See, that's why I said that the three were wonderful in their own way.

The page turn buttons on the Inkpad were better - much better. Plus it was bigger.

My initial impressions are similar. I think my Kindle Voyage is a more premium device than the Oasis. I miss the light sensor and the haptic buttons. I also like the origami style cover better. However I've only spent a few hours reading on it so maybe my assessment will change with more time.

I think I can verify that. My Voyage seems to have better contrast but it may be because the Oasis has a warmer yellowish screen compared to my Voyage.
I think I could live with the slight color shift and slight shadows from the LEDs on my Oasis, but I'm really having a hard time getting used to overall screen color which is yellowish.
