@thatblondelady - Try this version. It turns off all the logging.

I couldn't determine if the logging was causing problems because I couldn't get it stop like that even with plain print statements on my VM.

Excellent! One more test: Instead of turning off all logging all the time, this version turns logging on for background jobs and when calibre is in debug mode.

Edit 1: Anthology updating is working. Testing updating all 35 books now.

I noticed something about the FFF plugin. If you use the plugin to update a story and the story no longer exists, it hangs up and doesn't go any farther. there's nothing to let you know that the story you're trying to update doesn't exist anymore. Can something be put in that could either jump over something that no longer exists or give a popup that lets you know that what you're trying to update can't be found anymore? It's frustrating when I have a long string of stories I update and the search hangs up and I don't know why or on which item.

Most sites there is code to detect when a story doesn't exist. Please provide a list of sites you've seen this happen for.

Hi, this is not a problem for me, but it might cause problems, or confusion that I'm not aware of. I tried it both before and after latest test version, only because to show you example, I had to recreate, and that was after LOL.

A story I needed to just update the titlepage, to show the changes I've made to the contents (streamlined fandoms, changing packaged date to show original, rather than update, page count on title page -- I use option "Update EPUB Always"). For some reason, there were less chapters on the site than in my file, so it said that it had none to update, but the Log still said 'Add' but explained why it wouldn't update. That sounds complicated even for me, so see screenshot.

It might be correct for reasons I don't know, but just thought I should point it out. I'm guessing this might also come up if there is a confirmed update to a fic, but the author consolidated chapters and ended up with less than before? Hmm, might fool around with a fic just to see...

I've committed: "Change log status of NotGoingToDownload books to 'Skipped'." It will be in the next test version and release.

The Three I use the most are FanFiction.net, Archive of Our Own and WhoFic.com. And as far as I can tell, it hangs up from all three places or just takes a long time before it realizes that nothing is there and goes on. I've Had it hang up for five minutes on one before I canceled the updates of the books to see what happened. And usually when I find the book that takes a long time before it updates, I stop the single update to physically check the site and that's when I notice it not's there anymore.

Also, I'm using the Mac version 2.52 If that helps.

I´m also using FF.net and AO3 and that is not a problem I have seen.

If it´s a story that I have already downloaded and it doesn´t exist anymore then I get "Story does not exist: (https://www.fanfiction.net/s/7262070/1/)" in the FanFicFare log if I try do update.

But I´m using Windows.

I believe you are seeing some Mac specific problems that have been addressed in Calibre 2.56 and the latest FanFicFare test version. I suggest updating to both.

Using randomly found 'not found' story numbers on those three sites, I got a 'Story does not exist' for each in short order on both Windows and OSX with the versions mentioned.

Try updating to the test version and see if that helps. I download from all the above regularly, and the test version fixed all the things for me.

Edit: I see Jimm already covered that. Whoops.

I have just spent the last hour or so crawling through the config files and I can't find this, so maybe it doesn't exist, but is there a default.ini or personal.ini option to strip author's notes? I have an anthology that's made up of 20+ smaller stories, and the author gives the order in which they should be read on every story, which is fine and useful, but kinda repetitive when reading the anthology.

I'm guessing no because it's an HTML scrape, but I figured it couldn't hurt to ask.
