$4.99 -- A Thin Dark Line -- Tami Hoag/ Karen Peakes --> 18.0 hrs/ R-4.1 --> suspense

Quote:
A Thin Dark Line --> Doucet (book 4 of 4)

Whispersync: no deals at this time

Terror stalks the streets of Bayou Breaux, Louisiana. A suspected murderer is free on a technicality, and the cop accused of planting evidence against him is ordered off the case. But Detective Nick Fourcade refuses to walk away. He’s stepped over the line before. This case threatens to push him over the edge.

He’s not the only one. Deputy Annie Broussard found the woman’s mutilated body. She still hears the phantom echoes of dying screams. She wants justice. But pursuing the investigation will mean forming an alliance with a man she doesn’t trust and making enemies of the men she works with. It will mean being drawn into the confidence of a killer. For Annie Broussard, finding justice will mean risking everything - including her life.

The search for the truth has begun - one that will lead down a twisted trail through the steamy bayous of Louisiana, and deep into the darkest reaches of the human heart.

I have listened to several of the Arkangel Shakespeare Plays and have enjoyed them immensely. It is like having the full production play in a format you can take anywhere you go. If you have a Brooklyn or New York City library card you can check them out from there.

You brought up a point that reminded me of something that I meant to say in my earlier post. $4.95 is expensive, but a person's got to weigh the price against the quality. A person usually does gets what he or she pays for. If a person wants a good quality Shakespeare audio, he or she is probably going to have to pay more.

Get the WS Deal of Book from the Man Who Raised Submarine S-51. For Only $5.98!

I think that I really might have scooped the 'Monkey this time (I am so excited because that so rarely happens. ).

For you newbies . . . . WS, in the title above, stands for WhisperSync. A Whispersync deal exists when you get the audiobook, ebook, and automatic syncing between the two, for one price. Often the price for the Whispersync deal is less (sometimes much less) than the price of the audiobook, at Audible, by itself.

I read, sometime back, about the guy who was in charge of raising the submarine and who wrote this book, Edward Ellsberg. He was masterful at what he did best--the incredibly complex and difficult task of raising sunken ships. His star perhaps shone brightest in World War II, after the publication of this book (in 1929), when he did the crucial work of re-floating many, many other ships for the U.S. military.

Title: On the Bottom: The Raising of the Submarine S-51.
Genre: Non-Fiction (Military).
Author(s): Edward Ellsberg.
Price: $5.98 ($1.99 ebook (marked down) + $3.99 Whispersync audio).
Regular Price of Audio, by Itself, at Audible: $19.95? (Audible); $24.95? (Amazon).
Ebook Rating/Number of Reviews: 4.6 stars/25 reviews (Amazon).
Audio Rating/Number of Ratings: 4.6/5 ratings.
Pages/Audio Length: 272/9 hours and 31 minutes.
Narrator(s): Stephen Hoye.
Audible URL: http://www.audible.com/pd/History/On...ook/B00MR8ZFMQ.
Amazon URL (can get the whole Whispersync deal here): http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00KQ6PK9E.

Book Description (Amazon):

On September 25, 1925, the S-51 tragically sank to the ocean floor, and Edward Ellsberg was the man whose courage and determination brought it back

The sinking of the submarine S-51 was one of the greatest tragedies in American naval history. Due to a miscommunication and subsequent collision between the sub and a passing steamship on a September night, the S-51, including thirty-three of its crew of thirty-six, sank to the ocean depths. The tragedy of the S-51 captivated the nation, and was a fixture in the pages of American newspapers. The story took on a whole new dimension when the navy decided to take over the salvage of the thousand-ton behemoth from a civilian company.

Heading the crew tasked with this impossible feat was Edward Ellsberg, at the time a lieutenant commander.
On the Bottom is Ellsberg’s account of the successes and failures he and his men experienced as they attempted an astonishing feat of engineering and bravery: the first salvage of a submarine from the open ocean.

[ Speaking of which -- you-all might know. Was there any meaning behind "The Yellow Submarine"? I could never make heads or tails of it .... ]

Wikipedia says not. "Just a children's song". Though *others* ascribed meanings to it later.

Come to think of it, Audible shouldn't have picked this one for the daily deal. It's liable to convince some people to quit buying audiobooks as they attempt to deal with hoarding.

As an aside, a quick recommendation for The Terrible Hours, by Peter Maas, a true account of a pre-WWII submarine rescue off the coast of New England. Unfortunately available only in paper or on audio cassette.

That certainly helps. But digital items still have an existence. So, they must be organized, kept track of, etc. I can see where someone could be overwhelmed by having too many digital items, if they have not organized them at the time that they received them.

I might scan over the table of contents of the ebook counterpart to the hoarding audiobook. It would be interesting to see if the author(s) deal with digital hoarding.

Dire Straits --> Bo Blackman (book 1 of 5)

Whispersync: the Audible book is $3.49, if you own or borrow the Kindle ebook (2.99)

Bo Blackman is a rookie private investigator working for the London based firm of Dire Straits. She doesn't often get triber-based assignments, which is just as well. Vampires and daemons don't interest her as much as humans do. However, when she has to serve a summons on a dodgy daemon called Devlin O'Shea and she ends up saving his life instead of being framed for his murder, her life takes a shocking turn for the worse. And when the vampire Families start involving themselves too, Bo no longer knows where to turn.
