Yes they do, unless the firmware on the Oasis is radically different to any other Kindle.

Go to the library page, and search for a nonsense string. If the "Text in books" pane of the results page is greyed out, all your books are indexed. If it's not greyed out, tap it, and it'll say "5 items not yet indexed" (or whatever the actual number is). Tap that text, and you'll see a list of the items waiting to be indexed.

That may not be easy to do right away. When I got my Voyager, I was very disappointed with how long the battery lasted. Someone on here mentioned about the indexing. After about 2 weeks of indexing, my battery time is just fine. I would expect the Oasis has to do indexing as well.

So, since indexing finished, I am back to 2-3 books before a recharge is necessary, which is roughly 800 pages, give or take.

edited to add: I see I missed a couple of posts where the indexing was mentioned. Oh well. Just a repeat!

Are you sure? I could have sworn I read somewhere (I thought it was in the Kindle dev forum here) that searching for a nonsense string no longer worked since the update to 5.7.x

Yes, I'm absolutely certain . Works just fine on my Voyage, which is running firmware 5.7.3. I used the feature only yesterday to check that a few books I'd added had finished indexing, and saw them disappear from the "Items not yet indexed" page, one by one.

Hmmm...I think this is what caused me to think that searching didn't work anymore

They (lab126) re-implemented the indexer, rather than start-stop, it can slow itself way down rather than stopping or hogging the cpu.

For a jailbroken device, we (I?) could give KUAL a button to return the indexer's current status.

Keep it plugged in (wall charger is best, some PC's turn off their USB power when they sleep - I think your Mac is one of them).

Interesting Back on my PW1 (when I last noticed this), running 5.6.1.1, I observed books reporting that they could not be searched because they hadn't yet been indexed, but a 'search everywhere' did *not* report that any books were awaiting indexing: after some time, searches inside the book worked. I presumed that the 'not yet indexed' stuff was gone. But now I look on the Oasis, and 'items not yet indexed: 49' just as before.

Maybe they temporarily broke it in the 5.6 series, just after the rewrite, then restored it later?

It was pages. I didn't count page turns, but it would have been about 650, I'd guess. (But I did misspeak: I actually had only two or three books on there at that point. I only threw the sideloaded mass on today, half of which is indexed already at a cost in battery of about 1/5th. This indexer is definitely more power-efficient than the old one.)

There's also a new¹ 'landscape' option. Which is not as odd as it sounds. Even though the display is the same size and shape as the previous kindles, the thick bezel on one side makes the whole device feel almost square. I could actually envisage reading with it horizontally - especially if using a larger font. I'm a bit miffed that they removed Futura, but I love the new font Ember.

The Voyage Limited Edition cover is aniline leather. The Walnut Oasis cover looks to be the same material - I can't confirm that, of course, folks are just speculating that it looks to be the same type leather going by the pictures. Nubuck is something a bit different - close, but I got my leathers mixed up. At any rate, since I have the Walnut on order, I'm hoping it's the same type leather.

¹At least for me - also coming straight from PW1

Landscape is not new to the Kindle, of course, but I agree it could work particularly well with Oasis: 1) left-right symmetry as never before (no logo) 2) buttons are more easily reached since the bezel is minimal on sides 3) cover can function as a stand, and with low center of gravity since it would rest on the 'fat' side.

I'm certainly not aware of any firmware version in which it didn't work, which is not to say that there wasn't one, of course. It's a feature I use whenever I add books to my Kindle, though, so I'm pretty sure I would have noticed if it had broken. The user interface for it did change in firmware 5.6.x.
